We were lucky to catch up with Natasha Huggins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Definitely when I was 5. In Kindergarten, I used to stay awake during nap time with my teacher’s permission. She’d let me paint her nails with crayons and pretend to roll her hair with jumbo markers. She knew before I did that I’d be some sort of artist. That launched me into activities such as ballet for 8 years, art as an elective all through middle school, and becoming a licensed cosmetologist out of high school. All of art directors and educators knew my hand was meant for making things. Both of my parents are gifted with creativity, it was only a matter of time and finding where I felt useful. Today, I keep my creativity strong with photo sharing, video content creation, and editing as my job and as my passion.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m currently a lifestyle vlogger and content curator with a family of over 30k followers across Lemon8, CapCut, TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest. Each platform allows me to create and communicate in different ways, yet still link everyone together.
I grew up in the MySpace era of social networking. By the time I graduated High School, Twitter (now X), Instagram and Snapchat were taking off. I used social media for keeping up with friends mainly, but around 2014 I was presented with the idea of blogging from Pinterest and making money on social media through direct sales. I thought it was a scam to be honest, but I still was hopeful. I began looking at social media through a new lens and never gave up hope. Of all the jobs I’ve had, creating content in the background has kept me on my toes the most.
Almost 10 years later, I am grateful to be able to work as a social media content creator! Growing my personal brand and building communities online has been nothing short of rewarding! I’m so proud of myself for not giving up, and I’m honored that so many people find my content enjoyable, helpful, encouraging, and inspiring. My audience means so much to me and every day I thank God he never let me quit.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Share our work, tell us you’re proud of us, give honest feedback. Imagine a toddler coming up to his mom with a finger painting he made at daycare for her. She proudly hangs it on the fridge for the next 10 years, right next to the grocery list and family photos. That feeling of seeing your art on display never goes away. As content creators, we put our art out there to be consumed and enjoyed in the fullest sense for days and weeks to come. When you find our TikTok videos or YouTube channels, share it with your friends, family, groupchats, on your IG stories, etc. It costs $0 and it truly means THE MOST to growing creatives.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
2 books I highly recommend that have helped and continue to develop my entrepreneurial spirit are “Mind Over Weight” by Ian K. Smith MD and the Bible. The first was surprising because obviously it’s a weight management book! But as I read it, I quickly realized that the same principles for reaching a weight and health goal could also be applied to my personal brand. There are chapters on setting goals depending on the type of thinker you are, if you procrastinate or just aren’t ready, and valuable tips to put your mind in a state of readiness to achieve success.
The Bible offers the same. Many people miss out on the practical value of the Bible because of being taught that it was just a religious rule book. Far from it, the Bible’s largest books are comprised of songs, poems, advice, and principles to live by no matter what you believe. Proverbs 31 is a classic chapter for women, encouraging industriousness, resourcefulness, and getting creative with how to earn a living and take care of her family. I am the woman I am today because I value Bible principles like a rare gem, and my success is attributed to what I’ve learned from it.
