We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natasha Franco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Natasha, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
Corporate America gets wrong the way they are always trying to sell something and aren’t looking out for the actual customer. Whats being sold sometimes isn’t actually going to benefit the customer. They’re always trying to sell a certain image of what “fit”,”healthy”, or “sexy” looks like, but everyone is built in a beautiful unique way. Genetics plays a huge roll when it comes to fitness, every body is unique and such has unique potential. There is no one size fits all method to fitness. There is a lack of honesty and true facts when it comes to this industry and there needs to be more truth as well as acceptance of different forms of healthy, showing the diversity in what different, strong , beautiful, healthy bodies looks like. Our media depicts “Fitness” and “Beauty” as slim and long, when true beauty comes in so many more forms. True beauty being accepting and loving your own body, not trying to morph it into a body that society has deemed “beautiful. Instead we need to embrace and highlight diversity. This is why i created Beach Bum Fitness, to build a community that uplifts and empowers woman, to embrace their individual beauty.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Ive always had an active lifestyle since a child, from sports to doing workout videos with my mom in the living room. Everything from Jane Fonda to Tae Bo, it has always been a way of life for me and something I enjoyed. Heck P.E and practice for the multiple sports I was participating in where my favorite parts of my day. So movement has been a part of my life and a way of life for me.
I started teaching group fitness when I was 19 at the YMCA, from there it grew to other local gyms and gaining more knowledge as an instructor throughout the years through teaching many different classes and certifications. Then during covid/pandemic the world of fitness changed. Everyone was forced to isolate and I was forced to think of other ways to engage with people and help them meet their goals which is how Beach Bum Fitness came to be. Beach Bum Fitness is more than the name, its a platform that anyone can come to and a place you can access anywhere that reminds you that you are beautiful and strong.
I’ll be coming out soon with a Booty program to help anyone looking to get stronger as well as develop more of their figure and grow their glutes. This is a program that I’ve been doing and developed over the years putting in the work to create the body that I have today. What sets this apart from others is I’m not selling you something that I haven’t done myself or wouldn’t use. Its honest, its true, and its straight to the point. Weights, consistency, and eating right.
What I am most proud of is creating this brand without conforming to societies vision of what makes fitness successful. Not sexualizing the female body for popularity, not knocking down others, or portraying beauty as one shape or size. Instead creating a community of diversely beautiful woman who don’t knock each other down but instead support and lift each other up.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe in practice what you preach. I live and breathe fitness. I’m not going to tell someone something I don’t do or tell them to use a product that I don’t use myself. Ive always been very open and honest when it comes to fitness and I truly enjoy encouraging people and watching them accomplish goals and become confident with themselves. I put in the time to not only to create the workouts but paying close attention to each person to make sure they are getting the most out of each move and rep. I enjoy educating them on how to properly engage muscle groups in the movements we do in class. I think the biggest thing is that I truly do care. When you show love, kindness, and compassion to others you’re always going to get the best out of them in return.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The first step is not seeing them as “clients” but instead as unique individuals looking to find the best in themselves. Truly caring and listening to each individual and not treating them like a number on a paper. You can ask any of my “clients” and they will tell you, this is where my heart lies.
