We were lucky to catch up with Natasha Boyd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natasha, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I was an office manager at a job I loved but I had just had my first child. All I could think about was spending as much time with him as I could but I also wanted to continue to contribute financially to my family. I started to think of ways I could earn extra income. I thought about virtual assistance. I sat on the idea for a while and then I was furloughed. I knew it was time to stop sitting on the idea and put it into action. I bet on myself and put my first advertisement out and landed my first client. She was a photographer that needed social media assistance. I was so excited to have my first client and so proud of myself for not being afraid to put myself out there. I’ve had highs and lows in my business but the key is to keep going and never quit.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a faith-driven virtual assistant coach and entrepreneur passionate about building community and helping women walk boldly in their purpose.
I got into this business to create an additional stream of income for my family and to serve others who want to create a purposeful business but don’t know where to start.
As the founder of The Clutch VA, I help established entrepreneurs with administrative consulting and equip aspiring virtual assistants through my Virtuous VA Skool community.
I host KingdomConnect, an Instagram Live series where I have meaningful conversations with successful faith driven entrepreneurs who are making a great impact in the Kingdom of God with their businesses.
I also lead Arise & Shine Women Leaders prayer gatherings to empower women to walk in boldly in their faith as leaders. The mission is centered on helping others arise, shine, and steward their gifts with excellence.
My prayer is that we pursue both spiritual growth and entrepreneurial success without compromising their faith.
Whether I’m leading prayer gatherings, coordinating events, or mentoring women in business, I carry a deep passion for helping people unlock their God-given potential and make an impact in there sphere of influence.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I’ve found that hustle culture leads to stress and anxiety. Many are suffering from burnout because they are listening to Gurus and not God.
When I first started my business, I was taught I had to constantly hustle and strive, which for me led to anxiety and stress. I realized I had to stop hustling and chasing money and chase after the heart of God.
After an unsuccessful attempt at doing things my way, I learned that if I truly wanted to be successful, I had to let Him take the lead in my business.
This scripture solidified this for me. “When anxiety and distress come upon you [as retribution]. Then they will call upon me (Wisdom), but I will not answer; They will seek me eagerly but they will not find me, Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord [that is, obeying Him with reverence and awe-filled respect],” Proverbs 1:27-29 AMP
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During discovery calls, perspective clients would express their dissatisfaction with virtual assistants they’ve used in the past. That’s when I knew I had to pivot from just being a virtual assistant to properly training virtual assistants.
God led me to start a virtual assistant community called the Virtuous VA. The purpose of this community is to properly train and equip virtual assistants on how to attain and retain clients as well as efficiently grow their business. My faith based coaching program helps them to focus more on serving with excellence and not just having a revolving door of clients.
