We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natasha Boisseau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Natasha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I would love to be known for my craft and giving nature. People will speak on how I have loved on not only their hair but their spirit as well. I care for every individual that sits in my chair. Their hair will be healthy and growing. Life will be breathed into them. I’m invited to family gatherings and kids birthdays! I hear about loved ones and things that happen in their lives. It is important for me to give people what I have felt I haven’t received in my life. That is support, genuine love and care along with their services! La Finesse Boutique is a safe space for all.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Natasha! I am the proud owner of La Finesse Boutique. I started my Llc in 2012 but never did anything with it. I was a wife and stepmother and believed that came first. I worked a few good jobs and ended up pregnant. That made me evaluate my life. Realizing I was not happy I was determined to change that before my child was born. I lost my baby. The heart break from that propelled me to ensure I did what I loved. If I become a mother I want my kids to see me happy. I quit my job and have been self employed for 7 years now. I am a loctician/ tattoo artist & cosmetic chemist. I do several other things as well but this is my primary focus. Hair has been my passion for as long as I can remember. Everything I know is self taught. My aim is to help people love themselves inside and out. Sometimes that starts with outer appearance. Trust me when I say we will work on your mental as well. I never finished college but I was a psych major. I love knowing why people are the way they are. I also love showing them how to love and believe in themselves. You might walk into my shop sad, but you will leave looking and feeling your best. Most of my clients tell me they love coming to be because stylists aren’t personable anymore. They feel loved, catered to and educated on how to care for their hair. My clients are not actual clients they become my family. I need them just as much as they need me. My personality is not hyper professional. I am human. I’m funny, nurturing, spicy, emotional and a few other things. My clients appreciate me for who and what I am. I hope to see you all soon.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I make all natural hair and body oils and butters. My intentions were not to sell my products to anybody. I was suffering from hair loss and started to research natural ingredients to help. I have sensitive skin so I wanted something with zero chemicals. One of the nurses at my old job asked how I got my hair so healthy. Of course I offered to make her some. When I brought it to work she asked how much it was. I said it’s free, I don’t intend to sell. The next time I saw her she brought other doctors and nurses to my desk to order some. They loved it! I was shocked but didn’t have the confidence to actually stick with it. Now that I know my worth! I’ve expanded! I have four different types of Shea butters and oils. Hydrating mists and a shampoo coming out soon. I used Google, books and YouTube to learn about different ingredients and started making it in my kitchen. Now I still have a set up at home but I’ve included oil dispensing machines to help expedite jarring.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The most important lesson is short and sweet! Do NOT listen to people that tell you to operate your business under the radar. When it is time to expand into a New building or inquire about a loan. The first thing they ask for is taxes. In the long run it will stunt your ability to get into the spaces you BELONG in. So do not take short cuts. You will pay in the end!
