Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natasha Baker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Natasha, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
As a nurse working in the medical field within two decades and active-duty military spouse, I had to make some difficult family and career decisions. Meanwhile, I still wanted to do what I loved- serving people, while still juggling motherhood and the home front alone during long deployments.
I decided to go back to school for Nurse Midwifery School and take some extra side courses to help my college application acceptance. It’s started with getting certified as a Birth, Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Yoga Teacher and Lactation Counselor.
My long-term vision was to open up a Women’s Birth, Postpartum and Wellness Center. A Place where women could birth freely and naturally to have all the things they needed on a holistic approach. Many things slowly fell into my lap along the way, by making connections, educational trainings and networking. But through the trenches there were many hardships that came with paving away at this new path, and one was our family took a major loss on my income when I decided in changing my career to start this vision I had deep rooted in my heart.
I was a full-time student and mother, worked part-time by taking on private Birth and Postpartum Doula and Lactation clients, taught prenatal and different styles of Yoga while still going to school. Then in 2016, I had this burning desire within me to open my brick and mortar Located in Fort Bragg, NC.
Even though looking back and later learning the timing was totally off, I took that risk because I believed I could, this work in serving and healing the divine feminine. Through and through, it was worth it because I had the vision, grit and passion to do what I loved.
If you risk nothing then what’s there to gain in the end anyways, right? Whether it worked or not, in the end in my twilight years, I want to say I did that with no regrets!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am located and reside in West End, North Carolina just past Pinehurst golfing community no.6 where the 2024 USGA golf tour was held.
I first began my journey as a nurse and the passion to be a midwife was something that I wanted to finish eventually down the road. As a mother of three children and military spouse I had to make some difficult decisions due to unforeseen circumstances that put a dent in my original career plans. It forced and led me wanting to know more of root causes of illness with the option to offer alternative ways to wellness with whole body approach.
THE HISTORY OF WHERE IT ALL BEGAN……
In 2010, after marrying her husband she relocated to Fort Bragg, North Carolina and found some hurtles transferring from her job working DOD in the field of nursing while being a mom with not much support. She then made the decision to re-enroll back into college, took a doula training to become a Birth and Postpartum Doula and Childbirth educator in 2012. She worked as a part-time while being a mom and fulltime student.
In 2014, she was published in Fayetteville, North Carolina “City View” magazine and the Fayetteville Observer in 2016, spreading awareness on doula’s, birth education and breastfeeding. In 2015, she completed her Registered Yoga Training (RYT) and specializes in Pre/Postnatal Yoga at Asheville Yoga Center and Hot Asana University.
In Spring of 2016 she decided to open Earthbound, a one stop shop baby planning service geared toward mom & babies. Her hope was to bring more knowledge and education within the birthing community in her area of the military. In July 2017, she opened the Fort Bragg MBRN which is a non-profit Chapter located in North Carolina called the “Military Birth Resource Network”. The mission is to support healthy, safe, & satisfying pregnancies, births, & postpartum experiences for military families across the globe to one duty station to the next.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I made the difficult decision to leave nursing, I fought it within my whole being for years. It eventually made me physically sick and in pain all over my body. When I kept avoiding the voice inside and my inner knowing, that I was not in my full life’s purpose and while being pushed in another direction. I stayed and resisted, but then God said no, this way.
Looking back, it was all in Gods timing, not mine. When there were lessons to be learned, conversations had, bridges made, burned, and anything forced was not worth fighting for. What flows will flow and what crashes will. These experiences were lessons learned that gave me wisdom and discernment to see my true gifts in this human experience.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Passion, hustle, GRIT and the ability to SHOW UP… I grew my business from my heart in what I loved, and that was loving people that trusted and believed in me.
My Strategy:
1. HUSTLE like you are fighting for your life. Do it hard and GRIND it even on your bad days, just do it!
2. Put in the GRIT -Mind, Body and Spirit!
3. Lastly, when I SHOWED UP for my clients when they needed me most, they returned the favor in a positive google review or sent their friends and family my way.
Working direct patient care, individuals want to be seen, heard and loved/cared for. They do not want to be treated as a number or like fast food.
When you pride yourself in the above, it doesn’t go unnoticed.
