Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalis Rubero. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Natalis, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
In 2018, as a budding songwriter, I was determined to make a mark. I embarked on a mission to translate Eleni Foureira’s hit Eurovision song “Fuego” into Spanish, enhancing its global appeal. After countless hours of dedication, the translated song was presented to Eleni’s team. I came to find out shortly after that my version resonated with Eleni, and she chose my translation, allowing me to witness my words come to life on an international stage. With immense gratitude and a newfound passion, I earned my first dollar, marking the beginning of a promising songwriting journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a singer/songwriter, I developed my passion for music at a very young age. My family tells me stories of singing along to telenovela songs at the age of 4. So as soon as I could make sound, I was playing with my voice. In high school, I joined the New York City Housing Authority Chorus group where I developed my voice and confidence. Simultaneously, I began building my network and soon after I got called in for some awesome opportunities such as being the lead voice for the Bratz cartoon anthem in Spanish (“Se Siente”) and singing background vocals for hip hop icons J Cole and Kanye West.
What sets me apart from other musicians is my versatility. It is why you can hear me on a Spanish Rock song like “Se Siente” to crooning with The Blessed Choir in the back of J. Cole’s radio hit “Crooked Smile. Growing up as the daughter of a DJ gave me such a diverse music library that fuses itself into everything I create.
I am most proud of my first time charting on Billboard Gospel Digital Sales with a song I wrote, performed and dedicated to the most high called “But God”.
Although in the past, I have collaborated with over 200 musicians all over the world in almost every popular genre out there, currently I am focusing all my attention on making salsa music. My intention is to connect with my Puerto Rican roots and pay homage to my late father who aside from DJ’ing, was also a Salsero. Though my genre will be changing, my core messaging will remain the same. I will continue to sing and write songs about self love, relationships and healing.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Despite facing lupus, I channel its challenges into my music, showcasing resilience through lyrics of perseverance and triumph. My journey as a singer-songwriter becomes a testament to overcoming adversity, inspiring others with chronic illnesses to pursue their dreams unapologetically, amplifying the power of determination and passion in the face of health challenges.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think it’s important to share your friends projects if they resonate with you. This helps the message reach more people and a broader audience. Sharing is caring and sharing is also FREE. If you see something that resonates with you, like it, comment on it, etc. All these things inform the algorithms that the creator is doing something that works.
