We were lucky to catch up with Nataline Pomar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nataline thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was always a very creative person both at home and at school. I excelled in drawing and creativity since I was a child. However, I studied in a nuns’ school where it was very difficult to continue studying creative subjects, so I had no choice but to study pure sciences: mathematics, physics and chemistry.
My favorite subject was technical drawing, I was very good at it, so when I had to decide which university to go to, I opted for architecture.
A year before starting university, I enrolled in an art school to improve my classical drawing, since I had been told that in architecture there was a drawing subject that was difficult to pass. My goal that year was to improve.
That’s when I became fascinated by Fine Arts and decided to give a turn to my studies. I met with my parents to tell them that I would study Fine Arts instead of architecture.
I remember my mother telling me that she had always known I would go for that, and it made me happy to know that I made the right choice.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My taste for COLORS and my passion for art and textiles come from a very young age. From my mother I inherited the love for needles, she is a dressmaker. From my father, I have a passion for art, he is a collector. Both were also owners of Tejidos Soler, a fabric store in Palma de Mallorca.
All this led me to study Fine Arts between Barcelona, Salamanca and Leeds. Over the years, I created my brand Rollitoasí where I can express all my creativity through art, interior design, design and fashion.
I am a multidisciplinary artist and COLOR activist, or as I like to call it myself, I am an ARTIVIST.
Color is powerful and can help improve your day to day life. My passion is to create through vibrant COLORS to deliver unique products and experiences that have a positive impact.
I am a multi-passionate person, I believe that artists have the ability to create a wide universe of possibilities. I enjoy painting, designing joyful and colorful spaces, and creating products that bring joy to our lives.
For 13 years I had a multi-brand store that was a meeting place with other artists, designers and illustrators.
The pandemic of 2020 made me rethink the whole project, I had a vital need to simplify and refocus all my energies on art. At the beginning of 2021, I decided to close the doors of the physical store. A couple of months later, I opened ColorLab, my studio, workshop and creative lab, a space where I could share experiences with other artists and develop all my creative projects.
I am proud to have made this decision and to feel that I am aligned with my feelings and values. It is the most sincere way to offer the best of me to my clients.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The world needs art more than ever. We live in complex times full of uncertainty and art and creativity are the perfect tools to create a better world. Art can change people’s minds and people are the ones who improve the world. There are many ways to support artists and creatives.
You can attend concerts, exhibitions and cultural events, it is a way to create interesting connections and links with the artist himself.
By buying their projects, products or artwork, you can help them to continue creating and living from their work.
You can also recommend their work, share it on social networks, commenting positively and supporting and thus achieve a greater dissemination of their work.
Do not ask them to work for free, artists also need to pay our needs and bills.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is a very powerful communication tool to connect with people.
Instagram is my favorite social network, I started using it many years ago. At first it was like a personal diary, but little by little I realized the potential it had to bring your product and your way of working closer to everyone.
Little by little I was defining my visual style and it became my ally to show my work processes, designs, murals and art in general.
If I had to give a piece of advice, actually there would be several, on the one hand, be patient and do it little by little and at your own pace, without stress, do not let it generate stress, because social networks take a lot of work.
On the other hand, also be very faithful to yourselves in your communication, be coherent and honest with what you teach.
The benefits of having social networks are enormous as you can get to know and connect with a lot of people from many countries. Understanding what they need, how you can help them and engaging in conversations is positive for both sides to create bonds and community and generate
