We were lucky to catch up with Natalie Wenger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I am a 33 ½ year old wife, daughter, and mom of 2. I am an authorized nuclear pharmacist and PharmD (sounds MUCH fancier than it is, I promise you!) 8am-4:30pm M-F. BUT, my true passions include event design, planning and execution (of anything!), themed-ANYTHING—you-name-it, and giving pretty much everything in my life a WOW-factor. I am diligent in making sure that anything with my name attached to it has some oomph!
I want to share these passions. These include event planning and execution – for example, a mommy-and-me galentine brunch or baby “sprinkle.” Also, themes; like, every year I have a theme for my Christmas tree – the tree decorations, the wrapping paper, and the bows are all in sync. I know that MOST people will think this is absolutely ridiculously over-the-top/TOO FANCY/whatever, but it is fun for me to do and especially fun to look at!
The moment something clicked for me was after my daughter’s 1st birthday party, about 4 years ago. I spent (willingly) hours upon hours planning her first birthday party. The theme, food and drink, decor, invitations, timeline of events…everything. Every detail – I had so much fun thinking about every. SINGLE. detail! I didn’t realize until the end of the party that it was actually the best party I had ever been to, and it was for a 1 year old! Yes… I may have had some bias since it was my first baby’s first birthday, but I started hearing the same thing from other guests the days following the party! They couldn’t believe how perfect, cute, and detailed the party was. I wish I had better photos of it, but I didn’t realize I’d be writing this 4 years later. For me, it was about the planning and design process as much as it was about the actual party. And, even though it was almost 4 years ago, I remember it clear-as-day!
Since then, I’ve hosted countless events (now-annual Christmas party, baby showers, bridal showers, surprise birthday parties to name a few) and have been told that I should have a blog or do it as a full-time-job. And now, I am doing it! I am finally doing it! I hope you enjoy my posts and give you ideas, inspiration, and OOMPH for your own events, celebrations, or life in general!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into this business after my realization of how I enjoy spending my time the most. I LOVE planning and ideas. I LOVE themes. I can piece together an event (big or small!) and tie it together with a THEME. I offer planning and decorating services as well as balloon services, including (but not limited to) balloon hoops, columns, and and arches.
It would MAKE MY DAY to be hired to help someone create a masterpiece of an event and alleviate all of their stresses for the event. I want to solve that problem for clients – no worries around a seamless event!
I am most proud of taking a shot at creating a business to call my own! I spent 7 years earning a doctorate and practicing pharmacy (I am still currently working full time as a licensed pharmacist), but I know that being a pharmacist doesn’t define me! With event planning and design, I get to use my hyper-focus and organizational skills ALONG with my creative side!
My ultimate goal is to create masterpiece events that are talked about even years after they happen. I truly believe that an event doesn’t stop until people stop talking about it! I can make an event memorable as well as take 100% of the pressure off of the client. I will handle the stuff they don’t want to handle!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
A book that I HIGHLY recommend ANYONE (not just entrepreneurs or business owners) to read is the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. I have only read it once and it is on my to-do list to read again. The insight is beyond interesting and I believe if put into practice, can enhance life.
One particular spot in the book mentions how we as individuals spend our day. We feel the need to respond to “URGENT” matters. Things that fall into this category include phone calls, and responding to an email from your boss. Something that we don’t have time to NOT DO (read that again) would be something that is critical but NOT urgent. What comes to mind for me is EXERCISE and MEDITATION. YOU DON’T HAVE TIME TO NOT EXERCISE. The benefits greatly outweigh something that may be urgent but not critical.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started my social media account in January of 2023. My business was ‘born’ in March of 2023. It is the beginning of July and I have 425 followers. I grow my account simply by posting consistently (daily or every other day ideally), and keeping my story ‘alive.’ I follow those who have similar businesses, those who I can assist with my business, and those who can someday hopefully assist me.
