We were lucky to catch up with Natalie Stewart recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Health insurance industry standards are typically cold, impersonal and transactional. I have been the Owner & Operator of my health insurance brokerage for 5 years and from Day 1, I have created a space for my clients to feel heard, understood and supported. I take the time to listen to their needs and their fears. I take my role very seriously as I have helped people walk through divorce, job loss, business start ups, business failures, marriage, childbirths, etc and I treat them as a valuable human first and a client second. We all go through day to day hardships, so health insurance and finances should not be added to the list of stressors.
I think my secret ingredient is compassion. I care about each person I talk to and I strive to leave them more educated, supported and reassured that they have an insurance partner to continue through their personal and business endeavors, year after year.
Just yesterday, I received a text message from a client asking me for guidance on his insurance as he is proceeding through a divorce. I will walk him through insurance transitions and simplify that process so he can focus on healing through his major life change.
This month, I’ve had the privilege of helping a dear client reconcile medical bills after she’s had 2 heart surgeries in the past 2 months.
Last month, I helped a client that just moved from another country, secure health insurance and I was able to educate him on the American healthcare system. He was very appreciative of the time I took to explain all the nuances of insurance.
Currently, I’m helping a client find insurance after recently starting a business and losing her prior employer coverage. She was fearful of the cost but I’m actually helping her save money, which she will put back into her new business.
I have hundreds of stories but the common denominator of how I run my business is compassion. I’m highly educated on the health insurance system, but that is just knowledge that anyone can learn. What makes me stand out is my heart for helping others. I will strive to help one person, one family, one small business at a time, until I make a difference in our broken healthcare system.
Natalie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a licensed health insurance broker of Stewart Healthcare Solutions. I have been helping people find health coverage for the last 5 years, but I’ve worked in the healthcare industry for the last 9 years. I have earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Healthcare Administration, so I’m blessed to be able to serve in the industry in which I’m educated and experienced.
I help clients solve problems of financial exposure due to medical bills. Through health insurance, you can transfer the risk of high medical costs to an insurance company. That frees up your finances to run your business without the fears of bankruptcy.
I offer guidance for navigating the changing healthcare systems–healthcare networks, prescriptions, deductibles, money saving tips, etc.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of new clients is from past or current clients. It’s the biggest compliment when my clients refer me to their friends, family, their own clients etc. They trust I’ve helped them and want me to help their network as well. I appreciate and value that opportunity to do so!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I have built a reputation because of my extensive educational background in healthcare (my 2 degrees in healthcare administrations) as well as my 9+ year experience working in the industry. Additionally, I’ve developed a reputation for having a caring and compassionate heart that takes time to answer questions and go above and beyond for my clients. It’s easy to stand out when you always strive to do the right thing.
