Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalie Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natalie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I think I’ve always known (as early as my high school years) that creating works of visual art gives me greater fulfillment than working in an office setting, where working to execute someone else’s visions and goals is the name of the game.
My creative career thus far has been full of opportunities to express myself more authentically. Whether that comes through in my photography, my set/lighting designs, or my work in independent film, I am able to bring my natural curiosity and experience-driven organization to connect and create products that, hopefully, leave a lasting impact.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
To put it succinctly, the driving force of everything I create in my Workshop centers around storytelling and celebrating differences in perspective. Whether I’m behind the camera as an operator, on a set directing, or working on a collaborative project with others, my main focus is always centered around representing the subject matter fairly and creatively, as best I can.
My biggest photography projects to date have explored our natural world and have taken me on location all over the world – from the beachy west coasts of California to the rainy, cafe-filled streets of Paris. I have several new locations lined up for the new year to continue this work so I’m very excited to keep this journey going!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I love this question. Honestly, I feel like, through our societal and our traditional educational norms, we’re all encouraged to fear making mistakes in life, either professionally, academically, or in our personal lives – as if perfection is somehow attainable? It’s wild to think about how much I see this concept play out around me.
For me, professionally, I have had the opportunity to wear so many hats in my career thus far. There have been moments where certain positions I occupied felt like “mistakes”, whether I chose to stay in a role for “too long” or whether I tried something new and it didn’t feel like my speed. However, I can say with confidence that taking that “curvy” approach to my career has really given me an education in how businesses work, what makes me truly happy, and what I would be willing to do again in the future. I never would’ve had this depth of knowledge about myself had I avoided making the “mistake” of changing jobs – certainly, I would not be running my own successful business if I had stayed stagnant. I would always encourage others to get out there and make those mistakes because they’re important lessons for each of us.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
At my Workshop, the main mission/goal I strive to uphold with each project is to use the power of visual storytelling to capture the essence of humanity, shed light on untold stories, and, hopefully, inspire positive change.
I feel committed to portraying the beauty, resilience, and diversity of the human experience while addressing critical issues and stirring meaningful conversation along the way.
