Alright, Natalie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Starting my own mental health practice in the Tampa Bay area has been a rewarding and transformative journey. It all began when I noticed a significant gap in the availability of personalized and diversified mental health care for our community. There was a need to combine the accessibility of community agency care with the personal touch of private practice care, and I felt compelled to address this need.
The first critical step in this process was evaluating the unique needs of our community. I conducted thorough research, spoke with potential clients and local organizations, and worked closely with community leaders to gain insight into the challenges people were facing in accessing mental health services. This information was invaluable in shaping my vision for a practice that would effectively meet these needs.
One of the most important decisions I made was to create a strategic plan that aligned with my vision. This plan included everything from choosing a suitable location for my practice to establishing strong partnerships with local healthcare providers and community agencies. By collaborating with other professionals and organizations, I was able to build a network of support and resources that enhanced the quality of care I could provide to my clients.
Additionally, I focused on fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere at my practice, where clients felt comfortable and heard. This personal touch made a significant difference and helped build strong client relationships. It was crucial to create a space where individuals could open up about their struggles without fear of judgment.
For young professionals looking to start their own mental health practices, my advice would be as follows:
1. Research and Plan: Take the time to thoroughly research your community’s mental health needs. Develop a clear plan that outlines your goals, strategies, and timeline for establishing your practice.
2. Build a Network: Forge strong relationships with other professionals, both within and outside the mental health field. Collaborative partnerships can be instrumental in providing holistic care.
3. Invest in Your Space: Create an inviting and safe environment for your clients. A comfortable setting can make a significant difference in the client experience.
4. Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest research and treatment modalities in mental health. Continuous learning and professional development are crucial in offering the best care.
5. Take Care of Yourself: Don’t forget to prioritize your own mental and emotional well-being. Running a mental health practice can be demanding, so self-care is essential.
6. Marketing and Branding: Develop a strong online presence and marketing strategy to help potential clients find your practice.
Starting your own mental health practice can be both challenging and fulfilling. By focusing on the unique needs of your community, building a supportive network, and providing exceptional care, you can make a meaningful impact and contribute to the well-being of your clients.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a passionate entrepreneur and the visionary founder of a private mental health practice in the heart of Tampa Bay. I have always had an unwavering curiosity about human nature and the incredible resilience that lies within each of us. This insatiable desire to understand and empower individuals led me to embark on a remarkable educational journey.
After earning a Masters in Sociology from Boston College, I continued to pursue my passion and obtained a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida. Armed with a deep understanding of human behavior and a dedication to helping others, I embarked on a career that would soon become a lifelong mission.
Before establishing my private practice, I gained invaluable experience by working as a counselor in a diverse range of settings, including the challenging environment of a correctional facility, providing in-home therapy for families in need, and offering counseling services within a local healthcare system. These experiences not only honed my skills but also illuminated the pressing need for more accessible mental health services in the Tampa Bay community.
With a burning desire to make a difference, I took the bold step of founding my own private practice. Over the years, my dedication has transformed my practice into a thriving and diversified group, uniquely designed to cater to the needs of multiple marginalized groups within the community. Today, I stand proudly as a beacon of support and a champion for those who often struggle to find the care they require.
My commitment to improving the mental well-being of our community is a testament to my passion, expertise, and unwavering belief in the potential of every individual. I’ve not only created a space of healing but have also paved the way for greater access to mental health services for all, leaving what I like to think is an indelible mark on our Tampa Bay area.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
In the world of business, and even more specifically the counseling world, one fundamental truth remains constant: the strength of the relationship between a service provider (seller) and their clients (consumer) is paramount. Building and nurturing these connections are not merely optional; they are the cornerstone of success.
While the digital age has ushered in a myriad of marketing strategies, the age-old concept of clients becoming the most powerful advocates, through word-of-mouth marketing, still rings true. Research consistently affirms that word-of-mouth marketing surpasses traditional and contemporary methods, and previous clients (customers) play a pivotal role in this phenomenon.
When clients feel a genuine connection, trust, and a deep sense of satisfaction in the services they receive, they become more than just customers—they become passionate ambassadors. Their stories and recommendations carry an authenticity and weight that no marketing campaign can replicate. So at Tampa Counseling Place we have worked to create genuine relationships with our clients so that their enthusiasm, trust, and goodwill are the driving forces behind our reputation and growth.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
One of the most profound life lessons I’ve embraced throughout my journey is the simple yet powerful notion that there is ample space for everyone to grow and succeed. In a world often perceived as competitive and cutthroat, this wisdom has been my guiding light, especially in my professional field.
This fundamental understanding has not only shaped my perspective but has been instrumental in my success. It reminds me that success is not a finite resource; it’s a boundless realm where there’s room for all to thrive. In the realm of mental health counseling, this belief has been transformative.
Rather than viewing colleagues as competitors, I see them as collaborators, each bringing their unique perspective and expertise to the table. This open-minded approach has enriched my practice, allowing me to draw inspiration from diverse sources, to learn from others, and to offer my clients the best possible care.
