We recently connected with Natalie Myers and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
When you shop from Canoodle Company, you’re helping a pet in need. We donate financially and through our services to organizations that help save the most vulnerable animals in our community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Canoodle Company is a pet lifestyle brand committed to making your pup’s wardrobe as fabulous as yours! I offer handcrafted pet apparel that supports our community, promotes individuality, and sustainability. Some of the products that I currently provide are pet bandanas, hair bows, and bow ties. This is all proudly handmade and sustainably shipped out from our home in Arizona. I also offer custom sizing for our teeniest of puppies to our extra fluffy pets.
Since starting Canoodle we have made it a priority to establish ourselves as a partner with our community. I work to source products/services from local small businesses, partner with a local photographer for our seasonal photoshoots, and engage with local micro-influencers to create content for our brand.
Because animals have been an essential part of my life, I partner with organizations that enrich the lives of pets and the people who own them. Each year we identify several organizations or causes, connect with them to determine their needs, then seek to help.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My biggest accomplishment to date has been taking the leap of faith to pursue Canoodle Company full-time. I juggled my full-time job and Canoodle for two years before allowing myself to take that leap. It was a very challenging time but I just needed that time to re-evaluate what brought me happiness. Giving up my stable graphic design career was not an easy decision, but it was the right decision.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
It all began in 2020, it was at this time that my husband and I decided to get our first dog (Cannoli). We made her an Instagram account and were introduced to the pet community. We were meeting so many pet parents who were all just as obsessed with their pets as we were. I also wanted to support small businesses so my bandana collection began to grow rapidly. Unfortunately, Cannoli was a teeny 1 lb pup so most bandanas didn’t fit her. I decided to learn how to make my own. As time went on, I became a lot more comfortable sewing and taught myself how to make all sorts of dog accessories.
My husband saw how much I enjoyed making dog accessories, so he encouraged me to open an Etsy shop. I did, and the community support was overwhelming. Our Instagram friends started buying from my shop and my hobby eventually turned into my full-time job. Today, we have sold thousands of handmade bandanas to customers all over the world and continue to expand into boutiques across the country.
