Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalie LaFace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natalie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Everyone’s success story will look and feel a little different. For me, success is a balance among education, passion and life experience. Success is also multi-faceted. Success for me is servicing 50-60 weddings annually while also being present for my kids sports events. It is being able to make a passion (in my case, hair and makeup) profitable while being there for my family and raising little humans. Success also doesn’t have shortcuts. I know my BS in Business Administration helped provide a cornerstone in building my hair and makeup business. Years of networking and fostering relationships with peers in the industry also helped me achieve my business and personal goals. Success is strategically filling your cups so at the end of the day you still have enough love to give to your circle of people.

Natalie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello!
I am Natalie, owner of Hair and Makeup by Natalie.
Hair & Makeup by Natalie is a professional, on location beauty company with a focus in bridal, bridal parties and guests. I uniquely specializes in both hair and makeup services, checking two boxes for my clients during their wedding day planning process.
I have 15 years of experience in the wedding industry. I understand what photographers, planners and venues needs are so I deliver a “day of” schedule with these groups in mind to ensure a smooth flow on wedding day. All client hair or skin prep instructions are clearly communicated to ensure the absolute best results.
I also understand each client and wedding is uniquely their own. I connect with my clients so I understand their vision. In addition to email and phone communication, a trial for the bride or client is highly recommended so that they can discuss and practice the desired look as well as fine tune a wedding day schedule.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I graduated from Salem State University with highest honors, pursuing a B.S. in Business Administration and a Minor in Economics. I am also a board certified licensed cosmetologist. While attaining these credentials, I didn’t realize I would be working in the wedding industry. It was only after college and cosmetology school that I embraced the peer relationships and networks along the way that led me to create my company. While working for a Boston based haircare brand, I further discovered the hair and makeup wedding industry. I immediately had a passion for the fast paced environment so I continued to build my brand. Years later, I am proud to say I have earned numerous awards, built valuable peer relationships and continue to stay passionate for my work. I proudly service the North Shore and Boston areas and value the wonderful relationships I have built (and continue to build) with others in the industry.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Because the nature of my work is mostly weekends, it was my side hustle for years. I would work Monday through Fridays and also work weddings on select weekends. The more weddings I completed, the more I was drawn to this industry. For me, some of the best milestones were 5 star client feedback and awards based on client reviews. It was validating to know the effort I put into every client and wedding was paying off. When new clients reach out because they were referred to me, I knew I built something special and gained momentum in my field. After our first born, I left my full time job to pursue hair and makeup on weekends only for the wedding industry. It was the best decision we made as a family and for career growth.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients is you and your brand. Stay true to yourself and others while delivering results that wow them. New clients will naturally be drawn to you and seek you out. Ask questions and be an active listener.
