Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalie LaBonte. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natalie, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
During a slow time of my business, I carved out time for meditation and reflection on the past, present, and future of my business. I realized how much I missed leading a team, and that I craved a name beyond me to create a legacy interior design firm. As I sat in meditation, One Light Interiors kept coming up over and over. I ran it by a few trusted friends who all said a resounding, “YES!”
Natalie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up, I loved all things interior design. However, it was not a straight path into the industry, as I decided to explore other areas of interest first, including law, international relations, health insurance (I mean, every child dreams of working in health insurance…right?) Throughout this time, I also began exploring spirituality, which deeply influenced my desire to create a better way to live that uplifts the world. In 2017, my soul spoke loud and clear that I was meant to be helping people recognize and honor the connection between mind, body, spirit, and space. I felt called to study feng shui, which helps people to be in alignment with the energy (feng) of good fortune (shui). After completing my training, I began offering feng shui consultations/analyses to friends, family, and beyond.
In 2021, I organically started receiving more interior design related projects. I also began connecting with my dream clients, which included families navigating challenging health diagnoses and losses- truly working with people at the threshold of their next life chapter. This allowed me to weave my Intentional Creativity® coaching, energy healing, Sophia Circle® Leadership training, and feng shui training to best support my clients as needed. I’ve had the privilege of leading end of life ceremonies, conducting space clearings, facilitating workshops, and creating intentional home designs that ignite their heart and soul. I also enjoy working with therapists, as I firmly believe that their offices elevate the client experience, and also bring deep joy and satisfaction to the practitioner.
My intention is for my clients to remember that they are divine miracles in motion, and that when we unconditionally nurture and love our whole selves, the Earth, and humanity… we will leave a lasting legacy of love.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Actively networking has been crucial in not only building my business, but also building a support team of folks who truly understand what it’s like to be a business owner (from new kids on the block to long-time business owners). I especially love BNI, as the Giver’s Gain mentality speaks to my heart- giving business for the sake of giving. I find my chapter is so supportive, uplifting and encouraging- we want to see everyone succeed and flourish!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In the past, I’ve struggled with the topic of sales. It always felt awkward and in hindsight, made me feel really vulnerable. As a business owner, I’ve had to learn that if you own a business…you’re in sales! Now it’s exciting, and I see it as an opportunity to serve. And, I also realized I was always so scared of what others thought of me- that somehow my ability to sell was intrinsically linked to my self worth, and that if someone didn’t like what I was selling, that meant they didn’t like me/I was inherently bad, etc. I shifted my mindset as I learned you cannot control what anyone thinks of you. I also apply The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz to my daily life, which is 1 ) Be Impeccable with your Word 2) Don’t Take Things Personally 3) Don’t Make Assumptions 4) Always Do Your Best. This has helped me to realize we all have our own perceptions, and that I can be of the highest service when I move beyond my ego and actively serve with compassionate detachment (I can hold compassion for what someone is going through, but not take on all of their feelings and emotions. It’s a disservice when I do this, as I can’t problem solve in an effective way.)
