Natalie , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it takes discipline, perseverance, and support to become successful. I started my business in college. I served on the executive board of multiple organizations, pursued a challenging degree in Economics, worked, and maintained a social life. On top of all that, I had a business to run. It was not easy. I believe that motivation is fleeting. It’s a thing that comes and goes and is usually based on emotions at the time. This is where discipline comes in, to keep you going when motivation is lacking. I vividly remember during finals week of my hardest semester, I barely had a second to myself. I would start my day at 8 a.m. and end it around 2 a.m. I juggled work, class, and meetings, and I would stay up and talk to my vendors at night. That was a challenging time for me but through God, perseverance, and the support of my family, friends, and community I was able to sell out of my products.❤
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Natalie Joseph, the owner of a cosmetic company called ‘The Natalie J Collection.’ I sell eyelashes and lip gloss. My journey into the beauty industry started with my love of makeup. I decided to pursue my passion and start a business. Currently, my brand offers a range of lip gloss shades from clear, to dark brown. My gloss stands out for its perfect consistency, non-stickiness, and vegan formula, ensuring that it moisturizes your lips, and will last for hours. In addition to lip gloss, we offer three styles of mink eyelashes in lengths of 18mm, 20mm, and 25mm. These lashes are not synthetic fibers. Which means they remain soft, fluffy, and reusable with proper maintenance. Because I have such a passion for the beauty industry, I plan on expanding my brand and introducing more makeup products in the future. I think the quality of my products and our customer service skills set my brand apart from the rest. I take pride in providing clients with products that make them feel beautiful. I want potential clients to know that they can trust my brand. Because once you shop TNJC, you won’t want to try another brand.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for my business has been by word of mouth. Pretty often, my new clients tell me that they were recommended by my returning clients. That always warms my heart!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot in business several times. I have already rebranded myself twice and I’m currently going through another one. My first two rebrands came after I worked with a business coach and a social media strategist. I realized that I lacked in marketing myself properly. I wanted to utilize what social media has to offer, and after working with them I outsourced talent to help me.
