We were lucky to catch up with Natalie Grun recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
My practice is a group of registered dietitians that specialize in eating disorders and disordered eating. Instead of providing diet plans, we support our clients in making peace with food. We believe in an all foods fit approach. Our mission is to support people in all bodies to heal their relationship with food by creating more flexibility, for food to take up less brain space, and redefining what health looks like to the individual.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my private practice back in 2019. Prior to this, I worked as a registered dietitian at a mental health agency in Austin called Integral Care. I realized that there was a great need to treat eating disorders and that’s when my passion to serve this population began. I decided to gain more skills and training throughout this time along with outside supervision/consultation from colleagues. I then felt an urge to branch off on my own. It was scary at first but building community and relationships with others in the same field helped me to feel more confident.
Now in 2022 I have a group practice that includes some amazing dietitians. We provide one on one nutrition counseling to children, adolescents, families, and adults of all ages.
I am proud to have a team that advocates and truly cares about their clients. Eating disorders/disordered eating requires collaboration and support. Our philosophy at Empathy Nutrition Therapy is we believe in a non-diet and weight- inclusive approach to support our clients. We believe in meeting our clients where they are. Rapport building and trust with a provider is key in producing true change and healing one’s relationship with food and their body. We strive to promote an inclusive environment for all and want our clients to feel heard. It is our hope that you will find sessions valuable in meeting your needs.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Practicing what we preach. I am transparent with my clients and let them know how I can best support them and what I am able to offer. Rapport building and having a collaborative relationship is a value we have.
When it comes to our referral sources, I believe investing time and interest in people is extremely important. I value grabbing coffee or having a zoom call to know who is referring to our practice and we also want to refer to people we trust.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth either from therapists, doctors, psychiatrists, or previous clients. I always feel a sense of gratitude when we are referred from our community. It’s a sign to me that we are providing value to those we serve.
