We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natalie Ellison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I was always the shy girl. You can ask my family and they will tell you They never thought of me being a comedian. Even I can Tell I never thought of a path like this it was just something that was for fun but the more i developed this drive this thought process of entertainment. I needed to take the risk no matter what friends and family said.
It became more then this “WANT” that want grew into a “NEED.”
But What is life without taking risk?
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I actually “kind of” fell into doing Stand-up. it was more of a one-time deal. I was happy doing it once. but then I just kept going to clubs open mics and at first it was something I never told anyone It was my little secret at first it was something just for me and the more I got comfortable the more I wanted to share what I thought was going to be a hobby turn into something more the work I put into this life the growth how many people I’ve met and got to know I’m proud of this I’m proud of where I placed myself in this world
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think it was when I started working just these day in day out jobs and you know people will always be people there is no changing that I was growing tired of that life i thought it was my comfort zone, but I took a risk and ran with it. I sat down one day and thought. “I need to change.” so I start writing you know goals, dreams, and overall thing I should change. I think personally that everyone should sit down and look at the big picture of their lives and try to see themselves and however many years down the road is it really want I want to do you sit down and write it down makes a difference and doing that I did with Jobs, life choices and even relationships.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
First of all, I believe everyone is creative in their own way. some if not most might not know it. but we can for now pretend that not everyone is creative.
Honestly, I think there is no understanding in this line of work of entertainment I’m doing. And if there is…. well BRAVO
I only think of it as a 2-way street you either like the bit or you don’t to me its that’s simple as well for me I had to accept harsh and nice criticisms. and that’s fine.
Growing ,connecting with people and making that sure that never giving up was not an option.
