We recently connected with Natalie Claro and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I saw Paramore live for the first time in 2014 and I was so enamored. Imagine a 14 year old girl frozen with her jaw dropped for 2 hours. I’m still recovering. Seeing Hayley Williams running up and down these large scale ramps was on a stage specifically is what made me realize that if I love music so much, there’s no reason I shouldn’t make it a career. Despite this I had so much fear at the time. If it weren’t for my mom pushing me to play at open mics and network with different musicians then I wouldn’t be doing what I am now.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a songwriter, producer, and instrumentalist. I’d say what sets me apart is absolutely nothing. When I was much much younger I to exist on this high horse that I held more value than other musicians for being the only creator of my work. The older I get the more I realized that I’m *exactly* like all other musicians. We all have different ranges of skills and passions. And I find that kind of beautiful.
If there was truly one thing that I think made me unique, it would possibly be my performances. Only because I put so much into those that I am in physical pain afterwards. But I know plenty of artists who would say the same thing, and have earned saying that.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think if you truly love an artist, vocalize it. Don’t be afraid to engage with every post or release that they have. The smallest encouragements have greater value than any purchase can, because it’s something every single person is capable of doing.
