We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natalie Chaveco. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natalie below.
Natalie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In a saturated market like Miami, where finding a newborn, maternity or family photographer is very easy and prices range from free, (yes i said free) to thousands of dollars. Standing out and becoming successful requires a combination of skills, strategies, and a unique approach.
Obviously, when a client reaches out to you to photograph their most prized possession, or capture their maternity photos, its because you possess the skills they are looking for! But having a unique approach, eye for images, and brand that reflects your style and attracts your ideal clients. So when a client reaches out to me they know they’ll receive what I describe my work as bold, creative, and fun photographs. Marketing your business and networking is seriously important. Without this, you can post your mini session for sale at one dollar, & no one will book.
Marketing yourself, setting yourself apart from other photographers is huge. People want to know why they should book with you and not someone else. Showing clients I am human, is another huge selling point.
What do I mean by human ? I have feelings, I have a family, I am understanding, I listen, of-course I want your money. But I value the relationship building so much. Because without that, I wouldn’t have returning clients time and time again!
I am a woman of my word. If i say I am going to do something, be somewhere, deliver a gallery on x time, I WILL DO IT. NO EXCUSES.
Continued education is vital in being successful. I have spent thousands of dollars numerous photography courses with well known photographers in lighting, newborn safety, wrapping, posing, marketing, business. Plus countless hours on youtube university. (its FREE).
Remaining professional, having clients share my work, tag me, share their story, and being adaptable for all kinds of situations has really made me a valuable asset to my clients. And i strive to continue to be this way.
That’s just a snippet of what I think and do to run a successful business.

Natalie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Natalie, feel free to call me NAT! I am 30 years old, mom, wife, latina and Miami newborn, maternity, and family photographer. I became obsessed with photographing absolutely anything MANY years ago. I decided to niche down to newborn, maternity, and family photographer approximately 6 years ago. I decided to do this because I felt it was what brought me the most peace. I LOVE creating sets for my clients and their newborn babies. and capturing mommas to be in their sexy, bold and unique journey!
The type of problems I solve for my clients is finding a makeup artist, hair stylist, even invested in a client closet for those mommas having some difficulties finding something they’ll like. I have a list of artist in my back pocket in case my clients ever inquire I am there for them!
What sets me apart from other photographers is that I am human. I have a pretty bold, outspoken, direct personality. I know how to break the ice pretty quickly and make you comfortable in front of the lens.
I provide creative newborn sets, all props, wraps, and outfits are provided by me.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I recently decided that I was going to give mini sessions a shot! I set together a plan of the sets I wanted to provide, how I was going to properly market the events, and locations, and realistically how many sessions I could handle in a day. Well, genuinely I didn’t think the amount of people that booked would’ve booked. But after posting and sending out my newsletter to my subscribers I sold out for my first location within three days. That’s huge for me! The second location I only have two spots left but have two months left for clients to book. So I am sure they will get taken.
I now genuinely believe in newsletters! It is a great way to keep past clients engaged and on your page.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is the kind words I get while I am on set that really makes me know my clients are happy with my work. I pour my heart and soul into this business and I truly enjoy what I do.
One of the best remarks I heard was a client telling her husband “this was totally worth it. I would do this all over again.” While I was handling her newborn son during his newborn session.
