We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natalie Bonsignore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalie, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that true success stems from having genuine intentions and ensuring that your work is a reflection of your values and beliefs. When you create something that comes from the heart and is aligned with who you are, it resonates with others and brings a deeper sense of fulfillment and connection. It’s important not to fixate solely on making money, but rather to focus on how what you’re doing is fulfilling to yourself and how it positively impacts others. By prioritizing how you can make a product that will benefit someone’s life, success becomes more meaningful and sustainable in the long run.
I’m passionate about creating jewelry that carries deep significance for my customers. Whether it’s incorporating religious or spiritual symbols, meaningful stones, or motivational quotes, each piece is crafted with the intention of adding value and meaning to someone’s life. Knowing that my creations bring happiness and support to others fills me with immense joy and fulfillment. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to contribute positively to not only my own life but the lives of others as well through meaningful connections and shared significance.
Natalie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a silversmith and jewelry artist from Babylon, New York, and although my professional journey began in 2020, it all really started when I was a child. Growing up on Long Island, I was immersed in a close-knit, family-oriented lifestyle. Some of my fondest childhood memories are about selling bracelets at the beach and local pools. My late grandmother played a pivotal role in nurturing my passion for jewelry. We would spend countless hours together creating jewelry, forging a special bond that holds a cherished place in my heart to this day. Her encouragement and guidance are what laid the foundation for my creative journey.
After her passing, I found solace and purpose in continuing our shared passion for jewelry. It was not only a creative outlet, but also a means of feeling closer to her. In the midst of the pandemic, I found myself reflecting on what truly brings me joy. This was how I reignited my love for crafting jewelry and beading. Driven by a desire to elevate my craft, I ventured into silversmithing. I invested everything I had in a soldering kit and silver, and I began my journey of experimentation and creativity. On June 21st, 2020 Jupiter Sky Creations was born.
Jupiter Sky Creations is a one woman show. I offer a range of handcrafted jewelry pieces imbued with intention and heartfelt craftsmanship. Each piece is meticulously hand crafted with attention to detail, infused with the love and passion that defines my creative process. I mainly work in sterling and fine silver. I incorporate most of my stones from different lapidary artists across the United States. Silversmithing is an intricate craft that demands significant time, skill, and dedication. Unlike mass-produced jewelry, which often prioritizes speed and efficiency, silversmithing emphasizes meticulous attention to detail and artisanal craftsmanship.
What sets Jupiter Sky Creations apart is the deeply personal connection behind each piece. Fueled by a desire to create meaningful connections & special memories, my jewelry serves as more than just adornments. They are symbols of love, intention, and the beauty of human connection. I create high quality jewelry made to last for generations. I take pride in not only creating beautiful jewelry, but also in the stories they carry and the emotions they evoke. My greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that my jewelry touches the lives of others and connects people through my art, bridging the gap between them, a loved one or their spiritual journey in life through jewelry.
Potential clients and followers should know that Jupiter Sky Creations is more than just a jewelry brand. Every piece is a reflection of my heart and soul, crafted with the utmost quality and care. I strive to create a personal connection with each client, and work one-on-one with them to create or find their perfect piece.. It’s a privilege to play this small part in people’s lives, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My journey started in 2020 when I was stuck at home during the pandemic and wondering what my next step in life was going to be. I was unhappy with my prior education, and I lacked a sense of purpose. I strive to feel fulfilled everyday, and creation has always been at the core of who I am no matter what it is. Whether it’s cooking, making body care products, crafts, ceramics, beading, jewelry, fashion; creation gives me purpose. I grew sick and tired of daydreaming about making jewelry at all of my part time jobs, and wishing I was sitting at my jewelry bench. It wasn’t until I moved across the country to Arizona that I decided I had to make a big change in my life. When I moved back to New York, I set up a studio in my dad’s shop and ever since then, I’ve been working harder than I ever have. My business is still growing, but one of my biggest milestones to this day was having the courage to pursue this craft full time, even with the risk of failure.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Embrace the courage to seek assistance. Initially, I was determined to master everything independently, believing self-sufficiency was the key. However, this approach led to costly mistakes—melted silver, improper tools, damaged stones, and more. Operating solely on my own, I encountered numerous setbacks. It wasn’t until I enrolled in an advanced silversmithing class in Arizona that I experienced a profound shift. Finally, I could ask the questions I’d long pondered and receive hands-on guidance. As a visual learner, this approach proved invaluable. In a short span, I acquired a wealth of jewelry-making techniques. My advice? Set aside ego, and invest in your growth.
