We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natalie Blooms. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natalie below.
Natalie , appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Actually, I was inspired by a couple of things when naming my brand. Firstly- I wanted to make sure that I sound accessible- so I wanted to use a name that people could remember and relate to. Planning a wedding or designing an event can feel very overwhelming and daunting and quite frankly, unrelatable. So, when deciding on a name I wanted to make sure that you know what I do with just one sentence- but also make sure that you still know that it’s a real person behind the brand and business.
Natalie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, thanks for asking! My name is Natalie Blooms. I am an event designer and stylist who specializes in floral design, custom builds, event production, and commercial set design. My work has been featured on TV, in national ad campaigns, music videos, the covers of magazines, AND on top of that- we get to design and execute some of the most beautiful weddings you have ever seen.
I got my start in the fine dining and luxury hospitality industry. One of my first jobs in high school was at the local icon Island Prime in Shelter Island. From there- I went on to attend The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. I received a Bachelors in hospitality management and worked in so many amazing New York places before returning to my hometown of San Diego. Eventually, through the path of fine dining management by way of Cowboy Star and The Pearl Hotel, (also local icons) I realized my calling was helping others create their own personal luxury hospitality experience for their own personal events. I took the leap towards creating a floral design and events management business and kept betting on myself until I ended up where I am now- five years in. Still learning and growing but with some really cool experiences under my belt.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My audience on social media is modest- I am just over 6k followers and I have built that very organically by being (somewhat) consistent and very carefree. I don’t put too much value into my social media because our word-of-mouth clients are the main way that we book. I try to prioritize relationships and dialogue between the followers and audience that I do have rather than focusing on building a large audience. I really think that the majority of people are a bit skeptical of social media appearances nowadays, so I’d rather been seen as trustworthy and approachable than be seen as an “influential” person based on my follower count.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I am so lucky and rewarded by my particular realm of creativity. Being an event stylist means I get to design events for amazing brands and companies, it’s always incredible to get the opportunity to work with a celebrity I admire or a brand that I actually use. The real reward, for me at least, is being a part of families weddings, baby showers, birthdays, retirements, and even celebrations of life. It’s truly an uplifting and spiritual experience to be able to be a part of milestones in our clients lives- sometimes multiple milestones throughout the years. It’s absolutely a blessing.
