Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalie Arango. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natalie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
Thanks for taking the time to read this story. I first got my insurance license of February 2020. I was extremely unhappy at the job where I was at (a doctors office). Nothing felt right. I felt God nudging me to move. the opportunity came to me from a patient who I just felt drawn to ask what his profession was. I jumped ship and got to studying and my license under a week. I got contracted with major company and got to selling. surprisingly a lot of people had no idea what insurance was or how it worked. Through educating, I was able to make a lot of sales.. Then, 5 weeks later, after I received my first great commission check, boom, the pandemic hits. I was furloughed from the Insurance company that hired me and then unemployed. no one knew their next move. I took a few weeks if not months to regather my thoughts. I was back at square one and had no idea what to do next. Suddenly it dawned on me- I got this license for a reason, so let me figure out what to do with it. I decided to become a broker. No one knows the first thing about health insurance, or how to use it. or how to get the right coverage for their car. or for their apartment. Instead of working for one company, how can I work for all of them? how can I make getting insurance easy? how can I simplify this entire topic and create a massive outreach of helping people UNDERSTAND insurance as a whole? rather than selling, we’re educating. We’ve found over the years hundreds of people who had the wrong coverage, who were misinformed, who were overpaying, even underpaying. We’ve helped so many people. over the last 4 years and are now expanding into a team. it feels amazing to finally see all the hard work paying off and seeing how many people we were helping at the same time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Natalie. Im a 2nd-gen latina born and raised in Miami. Growing up I had one goal. I wanted to be financially free and not have to be tied up at a job all day. As I was growing up, I never knew what was going to take me to that goal, so I learnt a little of everything. Took all sorts of classes throughout my college years. I graduated with degrees in business, criminology, psychology, astronomy, but even after graduation I couldn’t find the right fit. I really struggled bouncing from job to job. I started looking for new opportunities that perhaps required a license. The opportunity came about to become an Insurance Broker, someone who facilitates insurance. I said, hey, I don’t know the first thing about insurance. I’m open to learning, and I can educate the community! I created my agency from the ground-up. My partner Luis and my mother also helped along the way. We’ve partnered with over 100 insurance companies to bring variety and make sure to educate the customers along the way, ensuring they’re never overinsured or under insured. We’ve helped thousands of people connect to the best plan for their situation. I have built a team of 20 agents and my goal is to reach 50 by the end of this year. I aspire to inspire many other persons and continue educating and giving back to the community!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was changing the way I spoke to myself. I learned that what I spoke into existed, actually manifested. I used to believe there was an excuse for everything. But now, I’m a firm believer that if I declare something to be good and true, I can make it happen. During those tough times where I couldn’t find any clients or I didn’t feel myself progressing, rather than wallow in the space of excuses, I would get up, dust myself off and go find a way to make it happen. I focused on the solution, not the problem.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Letting everyone know what you do. Being proud of your business and profession. Everyone within 6 feet of my radius needs to know that I work in insurance and I can assist them with their coverage. this has helped so much because if people know what I do, they’re a higher possibility I can eventually help them out, versus if they have no idea what I do for work, they’ll be calling someone else for insurance. This and also never stop moving. clients aren’t just going to fall out of the sky, especially in the beginning. we need to go out and find them.
