Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalia Rey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Natalia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of the biggest risks I took in my career was reaching out to people—texting and DMing them to ask for opportunities or to trust me with projects, even though I had no experience. I had to figure out what to do as I went along. It felt like a big leap because most people are afraid of being judged, rejected, or misunderstood. The fear of hearing “no” over and over, or even letting your ego convince you that you shouldn’t put yourself out there, can be paralyzing.
But I learned that stepping into a vulnerable space and taking that risk is where real growth happens. It wasn’t easy, but pushing through the discomfort taught me resilience, opened doors, and helped me build the connections that shaped my career.
As an immigrant I knew I had to work twice as hard to be seen. Sometimes, you have to take those chances and push yourself harder than others because you don’t have the same starting point. It’s still a risk every time I put myself out there, but the hunger to succeed outweighs the fear. Every step, every risk, has been worth it, and I’m still pushing forward the same way today

Natalia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Natalia Rey, a wardrobe stylist from Cali, Colombia, currently based in Los Angeles. I’m a storyteller who uses clothes as my medium, crafting narratives that reflect personality, mood, and individuality.
My love for clothes and the way they can transform and tell stories is what inspired me to pursue a career in creativity and styling. Fashion has always been my passion, and styling allows me to bring that passion to life.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my work is seeing it come to life on the screen. Every time I see a project I’ve styled, I have this moment of pride thinking, “I actually did that.” It’s a constant reminder that all the hard work, late nights, and risks are worth it. That feeling never gets old.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
One of the amazing aspects of this career is realizing that you can manage your time and finances based on your experience and expertise. Many non-creative people don’t fully understand how you determine your rates for different projects or how you can actually make a living from your talent. But it all comes down to the knowledge, skill, and creativity you bring to the table. It’s incredibly rewarding—and sometimes hard for others to grasp—that you can build an income doing what you love and are talented at. It’s a unique balance of hard work and passion, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
