Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to NATALIA PERSHINA. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, NATALIA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Living in Belarus, I dreamed of traveling the world, exploring countries, cultures and languages, showing my creativity and unlocking my potential, recognizing myself in the world and discovering the world within myself. I had neither financial freedom to travel the world, nor an example in front of my eyes that this was real. But I felt that it was possible. “After all, if I feel that I can, then it means that I can”? – I questioned my inner power. And, one day, I simply took the risk of leaving my comfort zone, my parents and friends, my thriving theatrical and musical career, and going towards my dream, where everything was unknown and unpredictable, but so alluring. I went to places where no one was waiting for me, and no one provided me with everything ready. I was with myself, the world and my big dream, which everyone called impossible. And I discovered that everything is possible if you want, follow your dreams and trust yourself and the world. This is how my journey around the world began 13 years ago, which continues to this day. I didn’t just fulfill my dream by leaving a city in Belarus alone with $500 in my pocket, I visited 30 countries and lived in 9 countries. I acted in films, sang, staged my own play in Miami Beach, and released a song, acted as a model. I learned languages, cultures and became cosmopolitan. I discovered the laws of the universe and creation. I began to share my discoveries with people, inspiring them to realize their desires and dreams. Showing by my example that anything is possible. That no one believed in me either, and it seemed that my dream would forever remain just a dream, if one day I had not simply risked taking the first step and going into the unknown to explore who I really am, to discover my strength and depth. And I learned that I am bigger and stronger than I could have imagined, and nothing is impossible for me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I feel the world deeply and in a special way, I clearly know that I create my reality, shape it with every thought and action. I didn’t understand this right away, but when I first did the “impossible” – something that no one had dared to do before me, I realized that human potential is limitless, that following the beaten path is not my thing. I choose to follow my own path, which means that I go where no one has gone before, creatively forming a new path. I have always been attracted by novelty and unpredictability, this kind of transaction with myself and testing my scale and uniqueness, my limitless abilities. It’s easy to follow the crowd, everything is clear and predictable, but what about exploring your nature, discovering your depth, jumping into the unknown Step into the unknown as a way to experience depth – Natalia Pershina
I was the first in the history of the university to receive a “free” diploma, at a time when in Belarus there is a mandatory two-year service after graduation if you studied in a free department and the state paid you a scholarship. I became the first, and perhaps remained the only graduate, who dared to ask for a diploma without work, providing a very creative reason that did not exist and does not exist in the state system. How did I get a “free” diploma? I simply believed that I could get it, took all the steps and actions in this direction and trusted the universe that my intentions, supported by actions, even if they were native, because there was no specific guide on how, since I went the unbeaten path, will bring the desired result. I discovered a new path, and simply did what felt necessary, step by step, and at the moment when the universe presented me with a choice: will I risk going all the way with all the ensuing consequences or will I give in under the onslaught of reality. I didn’t give up, I took a risk and it paid off. Creating a new path, going and not giving up was my first powerful lesson from the world and my inner potential.
I have been on stage since childhood – even in kindergarten I performed (danced) for local television. I graduated from a music school with a degree in piano. I started writing poetry at the age of 15, won all the reading competitions, and began writing songs.
I once showed my songs to a famous music producer in Belarus, he said that hits take years to create, but I wrote them in an hour, and prophesied to me that my songs would never become hits. At the age of 20, my song became a hit in Belarus and outside the country. So I realized that there is no recipe for everyone, you don’t need to trust anyone except your inner voice, trust yourself and the universe.
Traveling around the world, I continued to perform, act in films, and be a model, sing, and dance. Upon arrival in the USA, I began writing inspiring songs in English and performing them. I recently released my first song in the US “I am the power” under the stage name of Nata Shine, a song that reminds us all of our limitless potential and the inner strength that has always been with us, is and will be. We are looking for someone to lean on and who will support us, and I propose to direct the focus of attention inward, to draw inspiration and support there, from our limitless source. Here in the USA I realized my next dream – I staged my inspiring play “I am the power” based on real events in my life. The play was staged on stage in Miami Beach in August 2023, and I acted as writer, director, actor and songwriter. It was an interactive performance, we inspired the audience to follow their dreams, and there was a special role for the Universe in the performance.
Now I perform as an inspirational speaker and talk about how important it is to listen to yourself, follow your desires and fulfill your dreams, rely on inner strength and trust yourself and the universe. What distinguishes me from other speakers is that my speeches are a synthesis of spirituality, supported by years of studying the philosophies, religions and laws of the universe at their origins in India, the monastery of Thailand, the shamans of Bali and the healers of China, as well as my own discoveries and travel experiences for many years. Plus artistry, during performances I perform excerpts of songs that reinforce the words I have spoken, use smooth artistic gestures, dance elements, read poems, improvise, sometimes cry in the moment.
My goal is to inspire people to follow their dreams, not be afraid, discover their strength and depth, trust their inner voice, not be afraid to take risks and take steps towards their goals, trusting the support of the Universe.
I also lead mentoring groups and work individually, relying in my practice on the entire palette of knowledge and tools that I own and which I have carefully collected around the world: yoga, meditation, tantra, affirmations, and healing, coaching, energy work.
I help my clients unlock their inner potential, step beyond the familiar, go deeper to get to know themselves, discover new opportunities, get rid of fears of the unknown, fear of losing. To go through a transformation with maximum benefit for yourself, open up in a new way, become the best version of yourself, learn to hear your inner voice, choose the best for yourself, truly love yourself, hear your desires, learn to relax and calm the mind and restless tossing and worries of the mind, find support within yourself, be an observer of life and create your own reality. Become the creator of your life!
I am proud that I was not afraid to choose my own path, and not the path that was prophesied for me in childhood: get an education, find a job, get married, have children and live in one place all my life, like everyone else. “Keep your head down,” “come down to earth,” I heard as a child. It was difficult to go against everyone alone, but I did it, I trusted the inner voice that led and said that I could. And then many times I heard that I was unstable, not like everyone else, strange, why was I always doing something, going, developing, moving around the world. For what? Even then I didn’t fully understand why. Now I know: to recognize and study myself and the world, myself in the world and the world in myself. To share with people that the world is wider and more diverse, it is kind and caring, your dreams exist in order to make them come true, you can do anything. Just want it and do it.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Living in Belarus, I decided that I wanted to work on television in Moscow. My environment at that time did not support me, considering my desire unrealistic and absolutely impossible. But, as you know, I am a master of the impossible I went to Moscow with money in my pocket only for the first month of living. Many people would be stopped by this state of affairs, but not me. In Moscow, I saw a vacancy on a federal channel and sent my resume. When they found out that I was a citizen of Belarus, they didn’t even want to talk to me, but I didn’t give up. And I decided to get this position at any cost. I called them several times, convincing them that I was the ideal candidate for them. After much correspondence, I was invited for an interview, and then given the opportunity for an unpaid internship along with the rest of the hundred candidates for one position. A month of unpaid but full-time work, when I had to get up at 5 in the morning to get to the TV center by several transports, since by that time I had already run out of money to rent an apartment and I was forced to move to the outskirts of Moscow. Despite all the difficulties and lack of money, I showed myself as a cool specialist worthy of being part of the team. And, a month later, I dared to approach the main producer and say that either they take me to the team, or I leave. They didn’t just hire me, they wanted to pay me for the entire month of my internship. So I became part of the NTV team, where I shot documentaries as a producer-correspondent. I became the first correspondent in the history of the program to be a citizen of another country. I took a risk, no one promised a result, I bet everything, I didn’t have a plan B. I knew that I would get what I wanted. I did not give up despite all the difficulties of the Belarusian woman who moved to Moscow, and my perseverance and resilience were rewarded by getting a very prestigious job for TV.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Pivot happened in my life when I quit a job for TV as I felt that I wasn’t truly myself while doing that job, that if I ever speak from the TV screen, it will be my words coming from my heart and based on my life experience. I left to India with one way ticket to find the answers for burning questions such as “Who am I?” ,“What do I really want to do in my life?” ,“What is my mission?” In India first time after living home in Belarus I felt home. I remember I was walking down the street in Rishikesh (the capital of yoga) meeting lots of foreigners same like me who came to find deeper answers in life, who came out of a comfort zone, who were not afraid to be different and be true to themselves. I realized that there I didn’t have to explain myself and my life style full of travels and exploring the life, there I was understood and accepted for who I am. That realization was so deep that it made me cry.
In India I became a yoga instructor and I have done my first vipassana course (10 hours of meditation a day for 10 days with no eye contact, talking/reading. 10 days of a deep journey within yourself). After that trip to India I was never the same. India opened the world to me, I started to travel and live further and further away from home. I realized that I was on a right path choosing myself, trusting my inner guru calling me to explore the world and my potential. I don’t regret a single moment that I have chosen to change my life completely quitting a very prestigious job for TV to follow my path, to live in 9 countries and travel the world to be where I am now and be able to share my experience inspiring others to boldly follow their dreams. That life changing point was risky and scary, but rewarding and crucial for my growth, my soul and my journey.
