We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natalia Maganda a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Natalia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. ther times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
My first website failed and never got traffic. I started my online presence trying to sell clothing online and after not achieving sales in my clothing business, I started a sustainable fashion blog to learn how to drive traffic to my website. After that people started asking me to help with their marketing and I started designing websites for others, and that is how I ended up becoming a website designer for conscious businesses and mental health professionals.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Natalia, a mompreneur web design expert and SEO nerd. I started my online presence talking about sustainable fashion, and Ssnce 2018 I’ve helped over 100+ clients and students simplify their marketing and maximize their impact. I do that through strategic web design and content.
My goal is to work with clients who want to stand out and attract their dream clients building a sustainable online presence that doesn’t burn them out. This is where a well crafted strategic website comes in. We create impactul websites infused with sales-focused storytelling that converts traffic into leads and sales. We also encourage our clients to grow their traffic year after year with SEO and blogging, and this way their website can be working for them 24/7 to capture their audience and convert them into potential clients.
I work primarily with mental health professionals and holistic service providers because I believe the world needs more life coaching and mental health support, and I’m here to change that one website at a time.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes. I started this as a side hustle and when I started to see what I could charge vs the hours worked in an office, I saw a lot of potential to make web design my full time job. But it was only after working for several mass consumption companies and expierencing burnout when I decided to quit my job to focus soley on my business.
However at that time, I had a lot of scarcity mindset. I would work twice as hard on my business and was desperate for clients and sales.
I slowly started to slow down and educate myself on how to manage my personal finances better as an entrepreneur, how to delegate and hire a valuable virtual assistant and how to practice more gratitude and self compassion of every growth phase.
After going through several coaching programs and a revamp of my business model, this year I closed my biggest website projects ever and scaled down to a 3 day work week so I can have an abundant business and also free time as a mom to spend quality family time with my baby and husband.
I wouldn’t change anyhting, because everything I’ve learned has brought me to where I am today, and the only thing that moves right now is my gut. I trust my gut because it always tells me what to do, like that day when I decided to quit my job, I think was the best decision I ever made!
It gave me freedom to pursue my dreams, do what I love and work less.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
People will buy from you because when you are positioned correctly, YOU are the only option for them, and there really isn’t any competition. At first I had a ton of imposter syndrome being a latina based in Mexico and selling expensive copywriting services to US based clients. I thought I had to work with native speaking copywriters or subcontract agencies, but after a lot of clients and trial and error, I came to the conclusion that most of my clients chose to work with me because of the unique value and energy I bring into a project. So once you trust your personal brand enough to make sales, you stop feeling insecure and you simply attract those who you are meant to serve.
