We were lucky to catch up with Natalia Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalia, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally during my formative years in elementary. My family always told me I had a creative sense of self-expression and that I would one day be famous. I internalized this heavily, and soon began to engage in more creative outlets with music and creative writing!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a writer, my love began in literature. Reading constantly in elementary, middle school and high school allowed me to grow my vocabulary and fall in love with poetry. Recognizing that writing as a creative outlet not only gets ideas flowing, but can also be used for personal reflection grew my love for writing even more.
Combining these two crafts, playing bass for an upcoming band and writing lyrics, makes life interesting! Being able to integrate my passion for music with my passion for creative writing has allowed me to express myself freely and feel proud of my accomplishments!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A huge lesson I had to unlearn is taking criticism extremely literally. Within the arts, you’re always going to face criticism, positive or negative, but it is truly the response you give that determines how you take the information given. Personally, I had an extremely hard time taking criticism growing up, since I always associated it with me “not being good enough” to be perfect. As I grew older and encountered more criticisms, within and outside the industry, realizing that feedback is just another perspective helped me reflect on advice better, ultimately opening me up to new pathways and methods that have helped me grown in my craft!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative to me is being a part of the craft no matter what! Hardships are always going to come your way, regardless of if you’re pursuing a creative path or non-creative, having motivation and striving for your best self with whatever you do is the biggest gift of them all. Being able to defy the odds and an initial negative mindset within my life and still find a way to do my craft and artistry keeps me motivated, since I know that what I do for myself now is only the beginning for what I’ll do in the future!
