We recently connected with Natalia J and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Natalia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
As an up-and-coming female rapper, I’ve learned that success isn’t about playing it safe—it’s about taking risks and pushing boundaries. Every time I step into the studio or hit the stage, I’m putting a piece of myself out there, knowing that not everyone will get it. But that’s the point. Greatness isn’t about fitting in—it’s about standing out. I’m not afraid to take risks because that’s where growth happens. Whether it’s experimenting with new sounds, being unapologetically bold in my lyrics, or stepping into spaces where people don’t expect me, I’m all in. It’s not just about making music; it’s about making a statement. And trust me, the world’s gonna hear me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey as an up-and-coming female rapper wouldn’t be the same without the guidance and mentorship I’ve received along the way. Artists like Beatking and Sauce Walka from Houston have played a huge role in shaping my sound and my mindset. They’ve shown me what it means to be fearless in this game, to stay true to who I am while still evolving as an artist. They didn’t just give me advice—they led by example, showing me how to navigate this industry while staying authentic.
On top of that, my engineer Kalani has been a crucial part of my growth. He’s helped me refine my sound and push boundaries, always encouraging me to take risks and trust my instincts in the booth. Having that level of support, from people who’ve already paved their own paths, is priceless. It’s a constant reminder that with the right team and the right drive, I can make it in this industry.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pursuing a career in rap isn’t easy, especially when you’re independent and trying to fund your dreams. Sometimes the path isn’t straight, and you have to find other ways to keep things moving. Whether it’s taking modeling gigs, doing hair, or whatever side hustle it takes, it’s all part of the grind. I’ve had to juggle different jobs just to keep my studio time booked and my vision alive. But that’s the hustle—knowing that every step, every grind outside of music, is just another investment in my dream.
The struggle makes me work harder, and it’s made me even more hungry to succeed in this industry. I know it’s not always glamorous, but that hustle has built my character and resilience. At the end of the day, every job I take brings me one step closer to my goal.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The future of music depends on the voices of up-and-coming and local artists. These are the artists who are raw, hungry, and unapologetically authentic. They bring fresh perspectives and new sounds that push the boundaries of what music can be. The thing is, the next wave of music won’t come from the mainstream, it’ll come from those grinding in their cities, perfecting their craft with limited resources and endless passion. That’s why it’s so important for us to support them.
When you support local artists, you’re not just helping them grow, you’re investing in the future of music itself. The biggest artists in the game all started somewhere, and without that local support, many wouldn’t have made it. These artists need platforms, resources, and fans who believe in them to continue shaping the sound of tomorrow. It’s not just about discovering the next big thing, it’s about keeping the art form alive and thriving for future creatives
