We were lucky to catch up with Natalia Christabelle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natalia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The chance to mix both of my loves in professional wrestling and acting into one exciting project. Being cast in original lucha libre themed play ‘Lucha Teotl’ by Chris Ramirez and Jeff Colangelo has been a literal dream as a performer. Being able to join a production filled with creative forces and put together their vision in a welcoming environment of your artistic input as an actor and stuntwoman for these uniquely shaped characters that are relatable yet unforgettable.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Based in Los Angeles, CA. Natalia Christabelle (she/her/ella) began working in stunts in MTV’s The Challenge. Afterwards, she filmed multiple pilots, tv series, music videos and films garnering her SAG-AFTRA. Thanks to her love for professional wrestling, she trained at an early age in sports such as track and field, weightlifting, kickboxing, ballet and jazz. She booked acting roles in shows such as Quantum Leap and Sex Lives of College Girls as she transitioned to more acting roles and professional wrestling training at MPW in Chatsworth, CA. The SAG-AFTRA Actor’s Strike forced her to stop training due to uncertainty regarding the film/tv industry status during these historic negotiations. That’s what led Natalia to pursue theatre, subsequently, finding out about ‘Lucha Teotl’ audition and the rest is history.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had unconsciously engrained on my back that because of my own trauma and lack of therapy that the world owed me success. I had unjustly suffered, so I now deserved good karma. That’s just not how life works. With time, introspection and life experiences, I realized that I truly carried this massive chip on my shoulder because of this ‘victim mentality’ I adopted. Don’t get me wrong, I understand this was a maladaptive coping mechanism, but the world doesn’t owe us anything. I’m not entitled to a better life because I’m a good person. People we deemed as “Bad” have some of the most comfortable lives. Once you learn that life won’t give you more lemons just because you’re making more lemonade. You’ll be a lot happier and humble to the human experience.
