We were lucky to catch up with Natalia Carnevale recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natalia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents always had a way of nurturing our interests. My interests involved a wide variety of skills and sometimes the topics could be quite polarizing. Whether it was sewing, wrestling or anything in between my parents supported my interests the best they could.
A funny story that comes to my mind was when I wanted a pet chicken. Where there was a will, there was my way. I was determined to get a chicken and finally had the money to make my purchase. As time went on we soon found out that hen was in fact a rooster. It didn’t matter to me, I had reached my goal no matter how different it looked. I was proud of my pet rooster.
I feel like my business and professional career in general is like that! I have a general idea of what I want so I get after it. The end result may not be the same but I try not to become paralyzed by whether or not I’ll be raising a rooster rather than a hen.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Natalia – a typical gal nurturing learning in a typical ways. I have a love for learning and nature. I provide opportunities for all abilities and ages to dive deep into nature and thrive in new skills and an empowering mindset.
Whether you are learning looking through the lens of your camera or a blazing fire, we nurture you to see the world in a unique way.
We teach Bushcraft (primitive survival) , Social Emotional Learning (social skills, communication and growth mindset) and Visual Communication (videography and photography).
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the daily grind. If I’m working nonstop it is to no benefit of my company. You do not have to do it all. Get people
in there as early as possible to build a community that supports your mission.
Business ownership is longer than a 9-5 in the sense that you can have ideas that pop into your head at any moment,
However, if you stay true to your mission and the reason you went into the business grinding can start to feel punitive.
Enjoy your journey each step of the way! I celebrate every single customer with gratitude! It’s been such a privilege to service the community.
I know I couldn’t show up my best if I was living my daily grind.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Finding my business took a bit of time! I have had some gracious opportunities and have been so thankful. Community is incredibly important to me! It shows up in everything I do.
My initial capital came together by offering classes. I utilized what I had access to at first. I had $0 to start a business however knew that I had a skill set that was priceless. I believe everyone has a special gift they are meant to share with the world, This mindset was the very capital I needed to get off the ground.
