We recently connected with Natalia Bilbao and have shared our conversation below.
Natalia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
There comes a point in your career, however far along you may be or however many milestones you have yet to reach, when you kind of just want to be involved in projects that are fun and are aligned with your values. Time is precious and as I’ve gotten older and more experienced I’m leaning more and more towards projects and stories that strike a chord on a personal level. I always ask myself if a story is worth telling and if I can offer an interesting perspective. And this mentality applies both in projects were I’m “talent for hire”, as well as those which I take a more proactive approach in developing. The cool thing is that depending on how I’m feeling at any given point or what stories seem more interesting to me, that’s the creative and artistic route I’ll take.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was a semi pro tennis player before I decided to get into acting. I always loved being a part of my school theater plays as a kid and loved telling stories to my classmates and friends, so after I quit tennis it felt like my true calling. The beginning wasn’t easy, but I slowly felt that I was part of more impactful projects and had the chance to work with a lot of really talented professionals. I’m a storyteller, it’s what I do best, whether on stage or on camera as an actress or TV host or in front of thousands of people at a stadium,… I also started writing more and more and developing my own projects. I love combining being a part of and developing interesting projects, but I also started teaching masterclasses on impactful and charismatic storytelling.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want more young girls and women to feel empowered to take on whatever activities or challenegs they feel called to do. Specifically in the sports, action driven and creative fields.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Constant change, continuously challenging myself and having the chance to connect with many different kinds of people and learn about other lifestyles, beliefs, values and cultures.
