Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nasheema Dixon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nasheema, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
As a mother, I understand the importance of pouring positively into children. However, as a single mom I also understand that we also need to be poured into positively as well. Mothers are the backbones of their children which are our future. I have learned that whats poured in, pours out. My daughter is my inspiration to do and be better. I believe that it is my duty to lead by example. However, I’ve recognized how circumstances can affect moods and emotions throughout this motherhood journey, so I wanted to share some relatable experiences with women through my adult books, while also giving assets to speak positively into their children with my children’s books. My mission is simple, uplifting children and women to dare to be their best selves.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nasheema S. Dixon. I am the author and founder of Dear You LLC. Dear You LLC was founded in 2018 with a mission to help uplift, empower and inspire mothers and children to have confidence to dream past circumstance. Our slogan “Dear You, I Dare You®️ is a simple call to action to encourage one to dare to be their best selves! This mission has been inspired by my very own journey in motherhood as I have a 9 year old daughter. Dear You has recently published an inspirational children’s book collection with the following titles “Dear You, Young Girl”, “Dear You, Young Boy” and “Dear You, I Dare You inspirational coloring book/journal.” We also have a collection for women with the following titles “Dear You, I Dare You” and Dear You, I Dare You Again. As a mother I recognize that what’s poured in, is poured out. So we like to be apart of a community that pours positivity into both children and their backbones. Our collections not only uplift and encourage but they also can create healthy dialogue amongst women, amongst parents and children, teachers and students, and with self. Although our children’s collection has been our best selling works, we still never neglect to remind our mothers that they are not alone and we have encouragement for them as well. Recently Dear you has recently become New York City M/WBE certified which expands our opportunity to become more visible to government agencies like DOE, DYCD and more.
Dear you is on an ongoing journey created by a mother with a dream she believes in.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I believe my tenacity to keep going even at this very moment illustrates my resilience. I always say being a mother and having a dream/ business isn’t easy but it’s possible. I have been taking my daughter with me to do author events and pop ups since she was 4. Some may ask, what about a babysitter? And my answer is I don’t always have one. However, I have to keep pushing forward, not just for me but for my daughter. My “why” is for my daughter. I want her to dare to be her best self, and follow her dreams and I believe the best way to do that is to lead by example.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clientele for me has honestly been face to face events. It gives me an opportunity to engage and connect with my readers. As an author I’ve learned that readers like to hear your back story and to feel a connection with you. These conversations give me an opportunity to be more authentic and genuine and less sales pitching.
