Alright, Naro thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I really to feel like every project as a creative is meaningful. One project that stands out is a screenplay I wrote titled “Fur”. I think that every creative individual puts a piece of themselves in every project. “Fur” stands out for me because so much of my personal memories and feelings as a teen have been pouring into it. It holds a special place in my heart. Not only is at a coming of age monster movie, two sub-genres that I love combined, but it also deal with a serious subject that I believe needs light shed on. That being the misprespcribing of pharmaceuticals towards people with mental health issues.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those that don’t know me, my name is Naro Guardado, writer and director. I’ve been producing my own projects since I can remember really. I’m a filmmaker and cinephile at heart. While my work has been small in terms of budget, from small to low, I’m starting to see a shift my projects growing. I’ve completed four feature length screenplays. My most recent short film, “Exit Ticket” is available to watch on YouTube.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is releasing a project out into the the world. It’s a rush because you never know how a project will be perceived or received. It takes on a new life when you let it go.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
To create with the audience in mind. I’ve found that if I make something that I want to make, it actually connects with the audience more.
