Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During the early stages of my career as a life coach and counselor, I faced a period of self-doubt and uncertainty. I had just started my practice and was struggling to attract clients. It was a challenging time as I questioned my abilities and wondered if I had made the right choice in pursuing this path.
Instead of giving in to despair, I decided to invest in my own growth. I enrolled in advanced training programs, sought mentorship from seasoned professionals, and immersed myself in the latest research and techniques in psychology and coaching. This period of adversity became a catalyst for my own personal and professional development.
Slowly but steadily, my practice began to thrive. I started seeing positive transformations in my clients’ lives, and their success became a source of motivation for me. This experience taught me that resilience isn’t about avoiding challenges but about using them as stepping stones for growth. It also reinforced the idea that continuous learning and self-improvement are essential for success in any field.
Through this journey, I discovered that my commitment to personal and professional development not only benefited me but also allowed me to better serve my clients. It’s a testament to the power of resilience and the belief that with determination and a growth mindset, we can overcome even the most challenging obstacles on our path to success

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A significant lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that perfection is the only path to success. This mindset was deeply ingrained in me, and it had its roots in my upbringing and early education.
Growing up, I was always praised for achieving high standards academically and in various other areas of my life. This constant reinforcement of the need for perfection led me to develop a fear of failure. I believed that any mistake or imperfection was a reflection of my inadequacy.
This perfectionist mindset, while driving me to excel in many aspects of my life, also came with a heavy emotional toll. I was often anxious, and any setback or criticism felt like a personal failure.
The turning point in unlearning this lesson was during my early years as a counselor and life coach. I realized that many of my clients were struggling with similar perfectionist tendencies, and it was negatively impacting their well-being and personal growth. It became clear that the pursuit of perfection was an unrealistic and exhausting path that often hindered progress.
I embarked on a journey of self-reflection and self-compassion, working to change my own perfectionist mindset. I sought guidance from mentors and engaged in mindfulness practices to manage my anxiety and self-criticism. As I began to let go of the need for perfection, I noticed a significant improvement in my own well-being and in the guidance I provided to my clients.
This unlearning process taught me the importance of embracing imperfection and viewing mistakes as opportunities for growth. It also allowed me to connect with my clients on a deeper level, as I could now empathize with their struggles and offer more realistic and compassionate guidance.
In my work today, I actively encourage my clients to let go of the pursuit of perfection and instead focus on progress, learning, and self-compassion. This personal journey of unlearning the “perfection equals success” mindset has enriched my practice as a counselor and life coach and has had a positive impact on my own life as well.
