We recently connected with Naria Carey and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Naria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the toughest parts of scaling a business is maintaining quality as you grow. How have you managed to maintain quality? Any stories or advice?
As my business began to grow something that helped me maintain quality work is remembering why I started! I always knew I wanted to be one of the best service providers there is and I’ve always been passionate about serving others, so I always want to make sure I give every client my all!
One tip that helped me maintain the quality of my services was always making sure I took my time with providing my client with a look I would be proud to call my work! After improving on providing services in a timely manner, I began to take the time to make sure every braid, every stitch, every swipe of lipgloss, every eyelash was applied with love. If there was something that needed to be fixed I wouldn’t overlook it or rush. I would make sure every detail was covered.
Clients not only appreciate someone who can move in a timely matter but they appreciate knowing that the person who provides there’s service actually cares about how it looks and how they feel.
3 tips I would offer that could help improve quality of services are:
1. Never stop finding ways to improve.
2. Provide the service you would want to receive.
3. Don’t be afraid to go back to the drawing board.
Sometimes you have to find what works for you and what doesn’t.
Naria , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Naria Carey, I go by Posh Nari. I’m 22 years old and I’m from Baltimore, Maryland.
I’m a freelance Hairstylist and Makeup Artist. I offer services from cuts, coloring, natural hairstyling, basic, full glams, & more!
Whether it’s noticing the dryness on their scalp or the oils on the bridge of their nose. I try to recommend products that’ll promote hair growth, help retain moisture. Things that’s a regular stylist normally wouldn’t do & that helps clients return.
I’m most proud of my improvement with clients, retaining knowledge, and my ability to never give up. It can be discouraging when clients don’t return or books get slow but, one thing I’ll never do is give up!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2021 I was homeless, had no job, and was sharing a bed with my best friend. However my drive to push my dreams hadn’t gone anywhere. With little to no money, I took my brushes and my combs. And began to offer complimentary services! I would collab with photographers, models, nail techs to help push my work and gain clientele.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn being afraid of starting over! I learned so many things through the years but i looked at starting over as me having to rebuild everything all over again vs an opportunity to apply the lessons learned.
