We were lucky to catch up with NaQuetta Mitchell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, NaQuetta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The best missions are typically based or closely related to a *SEE* SIGNIFICANT EMOTIONAL EVENT. Our mission is no different- the story behind my mission for Women Of Endurance is my story. As a survivor of domestic violence in my marriage, I know what it took to start over as a forced single mother – with almost no organizations to assist me as I tried to rebuild my whole life with a four year old and newborn needing me. I had been out of the workforce for 5 years so getting a well paying job was almost impossible. I envisioned my nonprofit being a safe haven for single mothers to transition from where they are to where they want to be.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Naquetta is a solution based thinker that has served the tri-cities (Hopewell, Petersburg, and Prince George) 20+ years. She prides herself on being “A Woman Who Cares Enough, To Do More Than Enough”. Naquetta’s love for volunteerism started when she was a student at Carter G. Woodson Middle school as she was afforded the opportunity to participate in the medical explorers program, that program was hosted by John Randolph Medical Center. She was 14 at that time and since then she has been making it her business to serve the most vulnerable humans on earth… Children and Women. Naquetta, after many years of working and volunteering in the human services field, spent time as a social worker for the department of social services. NaQuetta continues to find opportunities to empower and equip the citizens through assisting faith based institutions, community leaders, and community members with strategies, plans, and advice. NaQuetta truly believes that there’s enough opportunity and resources for anyone to thrive and seeks out occasions to fulfill these assignments by God in addition to being the founder of her nonprofit organization Women Of Endurance. NaQuetta is a Game Changer in the Tri-Cities and will continue to create programs and collaborate with other like minded organizations and individuals while being the best mom she can be to her amazing daughters Amina & Arianna.
As a woman of color who started her own nonprofit during the toughest season of my life, and has been able to juggle all that has come my way- I pray that other single mothers can use my story as one that inspires them to continue to reach for the stars. I also pray that Women OF Endurance will be the nonprofit organization that single mothers come to during their tough seasons.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Authenticity has been the key for me…. I have been so transparent with this journey to self sufficiency, that most women see a little of me in their journey. Women have watched me turn pain into purpose
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I have been serving and supporting others in my community since I was a kid, and I have never wavered from that. In the community I serve- consistency is everything and I have tried to my best to be consistent.
