We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Naomy Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Naomy below.
Hi Naomy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I originally came up with the idea of a press on nail business in 2017 or 2018. I was thinking about how many people didn’t sell press on nails yet at the time. I wasn’t very serious about starting the project as I am now. I was more focused on being a music artist. When the pandemic hit I realized that I should start the idea because it made sense to do it at this time. I really took a liking to creating art.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I provide salon quality press on nails for an affordable price. I originally started in 2020 during the pandemic. I’m really proud of myself because i didn’t think I was going to continue to push through the trials that come with owning a business. I always believed on myself and once I start something I have to finish. I will never be a quitter. I don’t have too many problems with clients because I’m not as seasoned as others but I make sure to cater to their needs so it won’t be any problems in the future. I take pride on my reputation as a business. A black owned business at that!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Funding a business is the one the main targets as a business owner. You need to be sponsored or have some type of extra income to get the supplies you need. I worked a few jobs and saved up a lot to put towards my brand as a nail artist. I want to be a full time business owner soon so I’m taking the risks to reap the benefits.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
This was originally a “side hustle” or “hobby” because I wanted to do music full time. I ended up taking a long break from music and started expressing myself through the nail art that I was creating. It’s still a surprise how far I came from someone who couldn’t draw a straight line on a nail. Now I’m drawing characters and doing detailed work, it’s a blessing.
