We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Naomi Bernard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Naomi below.
Naomi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
It was my friend’s coworkers band!
They threw a small festival on fiesta island that they didn’t charge people for, but paid me all they could afford at the time. They had other food vendors that people could help support and their Venmo for anything anyone was wanting to give. I felt honored that they’d even pay me for it. It was a blast! I got some dope photos and had a fun time working with them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Because of them, they recommended me to another band, @owenbolesmusic. They played at PB fest last summer.
That gave me a gooood adrenaline rush! Because of that, I met a girl named Elizabeth Bowersox. She was amazing and we ended up shooting again 7 months later. She started up her own band and I got the pleasure to take some photos of their first few gigs. Check them out @gunnstage! They’re incredible.
So word of mouth is what really helps me book with people. I love to experience with them and show them what I see. I love the vibe that people bring to the table and capturing it. A frozen piece of time.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I dream to have my pictures on the cover of National Geographic magazine one day. I know it seems like it’s kinda far out there for what I’ve discussed with clientele, it not being animals lol. But I know I can get there one day. I don’t know where to start, but I definitely don’t ever want to stop!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I’m a very artistic person. I also paint, sing and dance. To me, it gives me a sense of purpose without feeling like I “need” to do this. I started doing these things because I enjoy doing them. It gives me an adrenaline rush and while I’m doing those things, I feel like a kid again. No worry in the world, just pure enjoyment. Even if a “stressful” situation pops up while I do it, I’m very calm and find a solution for it.
If you don’t have anything that makes you feel that way, I suggest everyone to try something artistic or creative to see if it makes them feel how I do.
Being able to create without thinking is wonderful. Also, being able to create and putting your spin on it/putting your all into it is wonderful. That’s the thing about being creative, it’s subjective. Just cause person A doesn’t care for person B’s art, doesn’t mean they’re not good.
You’ll find your audience. You will always reap what you sow. Make sure you’re sowing what you want to reap.
