We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nangie Alexander. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nangie below.
Hi Nangie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
In the beginning of my journey, I was focusing on making content for my friends and family. As I continued to grow, there have my been videos that I have seen talk about how content should not be focused on family/friends suppporting you, it should be on your future target audience and there needs to be an acceptance about it. I think constantly asking people in general to support you in this type of work can cross a line. It can show that you are not confident in your own work and you have an ulterior motive just to get followers and be famous instead of building a genuine community.
Nangie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who are not aware of who I am, I welcome you!
I am a first devoted wife, mother of three and lifestyle content creator emphasizing the importance of honoring my faith in the everyday life, prioritizing oneself as a woman who deserves to simply be while embracing multiple gifts and identities. Through my platform, I encourage others to embrace their own style journeys, celebrating the beauty that lies in the diversity of self-love and how God’s love is evident through everything. I showcase these topics on my three major platforms, Instagram, TikTok and Youtube. I am most proud of myself. I have overcome so much and my content is truly a testimony of God’s love and grace. I want potential followers to feel loved, supported and safe when they come to my page. I want to know that I understand the mountains and valleys of life and I am here to simply support them through that. Whether is through inspiration or figuring out how to do makeup for the first time. Every experience matters to me and it will always be an honor to be part of that.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Resilience means to recover quickly from difficulty.
There was a time I was editing a YouTube video and had no space to save it on my computer. I had planned on uploading it that night to keep up with consistency. After crying to my husband for about 30 mins, I found an amazing creator that was able to help me figure out how to create space on my laptop and upload on time,
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to create community for other Black women that understand my journey.
I am also in the process of starting my Clinical Mental Health Counselor journey and I want to use my platform as a guide for being connected to people in every way. To show that not only do I have the credentials but I am not a robot. I am real person, that experienced real things and truly interested in helping you reach your potential.
