We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nancy Stevens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nancy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We are Uplift Clean Beauty!
Nancy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
A daily struggle with unhealthy looking, reactive skin while using every high end skincare product and treatment available was the catalyst for Uplift Beauty’s creation.
Liz, a skincare professional who worked for years in private skincare boutiques and as a product rep had access to luxury skincare brands. The more products she tried the worse her skin looked and felt which led to her feeling uncomfortable with her appearance. Her self-confidence was at an all time low.
A chance opportunity while volunteering at Gilda’s club opened the door towards growth and change!
Liz sat in on a Vanderbilt Hospital panel discussion about the importance of being mindful of the products that sit on the skin. The panelists shared their knowledge about ingredients and unnecessary additives that could potentially be harmful to our health.
What Liz took away from the presentation was a key lightbulb moment that highlighted what she wanted to use on her face in skincare going forward.
Determined to look for and purchase skincare products that were not loaded with harmful chemicals, additives and preservatives : Liz couldn’t find products that had active ingredients without chemicals that weren’t essential oils based.
Liz decided to create her own skincare line. She set out to create a product line that was scientifically backed with active, ethically sourced ,vegan ingredients that were chemical free and naturally preserved. The result? A glowing healthy complexion!
“My complexion was calm and clear and I never looked better.” I knew then that I was onto something and started sharing the line with friends and they started sharing it and that became the genesis of the business.”
A few years later Nancy Stevens, a wellness expert, coach, author and yoga instructor with a shared passion and vision joined Liz as co-founder in 2020!

Our goal in Uplift is to inspire. We want you to be happy in your skin and be your best.! We have a simple set of products that really work to reverse signs of aging, sun damage and texture and to restore your skin to its optimal health, without compromise to your well being
We take our role as holistic skincare ambassadors seriously! Our desire isn’t only skin deep. We believe in and live our lives holistically. This total person approach includes physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Skincare is part of but not the only means to enjoy healthy glowing skin. We feel that our greater role is in educating women oh why caring for your skin matters and that this care is a means of loving yourself as you are by doing something good for yourself consistently.
We are proud that our brand is so much more than just high quality, chemical free skincare.
Self-love is the greater energy that our company is founded on! We know from our own journey that when you do something good for yourself consistently – you show up feeling good about yourself and this is what makes a positive difference in not only your life but in those around you!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Our biggest lesson going forward was to go backward! We created our products, then our logo without taking a deep dive into our personal and business why and really fleshing this out. We had several iterations of what we thought others would want to hear and attempted to promote our brand on an unstable foundation. Uplift bounced back and forth between each of these not getting traction as a business because we didn’t make it clear who we were authentically.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2021 one of our suppliers told us that some of the key ingredients we used in on of our products were no longer available and as a result they couldn’t formulate our product. We were initially crushed and frustrated that this happened. Thankfully we used this as encouragement and motivation to come up with not one but two signature products .We couldn’t be more pleased with what we now call the Signature Uplift Beauty line. This initial misstep was truly a gift!
