We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nancy Schier. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nancy below.
Nancy, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Being an artist involves crafting pieces that uplift and inspire while striving to produce something both captivating and distinct from the norm, all while relishing the occasional compensation for your efforts. I love creating logos that also mean more they just a visual representation., However, it can be disheartening when your art, despite receiving praise, isn’t shared as widely as you’d hope. It’s a mix of highs and lows in the journey of creativity.
I’m thrilled I stayed true to my beliefs and left my job at a big corporation. While I do miss the steady paychecks, the freedom to explore myself and the quality time with my family makes it all worthwhile. It’s rewarding to finally have the freedom to follow my dreams and find fulfillment in my work. Embracing the dual roles of an artist and a practitioner has brought boundless joy and a touch of magic to my life. Never in my dreams would imagined.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In my artistic journey, I’ve infused deep symbolism into my paintings using oils, acrylics, charcoal, and wax. Each stroke carries an intuitive yet deliberate meaning, transforming the canvas into a conduit of spirituality.
During the pandemic, I tapped into a new facet of my artistry by creating a Spirit Animal Oracle set. This project not only deepened my connection with spirit animals but also revealed newfound skills. It served as a tangible source of hope and inspiration, highlighting art’s ability to uplift and guide us, even in challenging times, while opening doors to new intuitive gifts. Additionally, I now create commissioned pieces for individuals, channeling their unique spirit animals into meaningful artworks.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Firstly, it’s about diving deep into the realm of spirituality and symbolism, using my creative talents to connect people with their inner worlds and the unseen forces that surround us. Through symbolic artwork and commissioned pieces featuring spirit animals, I provide individuals with a means of introspection, inspiration, and guidance.
Secondly, my art serves as a source of hope, inspiration, and upliftment, particularly during challenging times like the pandemic. I’m on a quest to remind people of the transformative power of art to offer solace, inspire, and guide individuals on their spiritual journeys. My mission is a blend of artistic expression and spiritual connection, enriching both your life and the lives of those who encounter your work.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have an unusual challenge. I battle with PV, a rare blood cancer. It has been a gradual progression, one that’s brought limitations to my right hand, slapped me with a mild stroke, and left me with the worst stiffness in my joints, fingers, and feet due to the reduced blood flow or clots. However, I refuse to let these challenges hinder me. Instead, I continually seek creative ways to address and overcome them. I channel the frustration caused by my condition into the art I create. Through the use of textures and abstraction, I transform these challenges into a source of inspiration, allowing my art to express both my struggle and resilience.
My battle with PV has unexpectedly opened doors to new realms of learning, I’ve explored and dove into various types of energy work, somatic therapy, and shamanism, exploring these practices as tools to heal, both physically and emotionally. These paths have become integral to my journey of self-discovery and artistic expression. And through my challenges, I’ve become very intuitive in helping others.
