We recently connected with Nancy Parker and have shared our conversation below.
Nancy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents instilled in me the values of integrity, accountability and consideration of how one’s actions creates impact, whether positive or negative. And to always try to leave something better than you found it.
They loved & supported me through my journey from childhood into adulthood.
Growing up, I knew that I could trust their unconditional love and support even if I messed up, thanks Mom! I was not off the hook, though I knew I needed to take responsibility and change my behavior and/or accept the consequences of my actions. My Dad also taught me to slow down and do things right, rather than hurry through with poor results.
Nancy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Formerly research assistant to Paul Chek of the C.H.E.K Institute & head of Therapeutic Exercise Department at Rancho La Puerta, I bring over 20 years of expertise as a Alignment Specialist, Integrated Health Coach and Feminine Embodiment Mentor. As Founder of InBody Wisdom, ReSourced Women’s Circles, & Sacred Play Retreats, my passion has inspired thousands of clients to heal themselves. Through keen observation and compassionate, no B.S. support, I help transform more than just your body. Utilizing movement, holistic health, and somatic healing, my programs help restore core integrity & vitality, while creating a playful, joyous connection to power, resilience, and belonging like never before.
For highly sensitive people and those stuck in their heads, my work specializes in creating a solid foundation for health in your body and relationships. Decreasing pain and restoring energy & alignment in the body, while also improving intuition, communication, boundaries & discernment in your relationships, are all side effects of working with me.
My work has been described as playfully deep, precise & powerful.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
It seems rare that someone ‘figures it out’ from the get go. However, listening to my “Heart Yes” (which is also something I teach to clients), allowed me to successfully navigate my path along the journey and stay on course. Starting with the physical body, building the foundation of alignment in the structure, was my first step. I went to school with the intent to be a Sports Medicine Doctor or Physical Therapist. Along the way I was guided to the next step… as it was being built- working and studying with the C.H.E.K Institute, in lieu of becoming a physical therapist. My health issues, then led me to functional medicine and integrated health coaching. A death of beloved, leading me to go deeper into somatic healing, energy medicine and mindfulness based practices. All of which formed like layers of a (gluten free) lasagna to shape my work today. So yes, I would choose the same profession, as it has continued to grow and evolve along with me… as long as I continued to listen ;)
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Relationships! My clients are the best referral sources there are. Also integrity in how I show up, and the value & results that I have provided to thousands of clients over the past two decades. Maintaining a good reputation, by holding steady in these areas have been keys to success.
