Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nancy Pagan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nancy , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a customer success story with us?
I worked with a great Nurse named Gladys. The first time I met her she hugged me and I was not a hugger. We became great frends and our sisterhood grew. We have remained friends after our paths split and we each focused on new journeys in our lives. When Gladys decided to go back to school to finish her BSN she was doubtful of herself! I could not let her believe that so I decided to pour into Gladys and encourage her to believe in herself like I believed in her by creating tokens specifically for her with all forms of encouragement and self care items. During her studies I gave her four gifts. One to help her at each stage of her journey. Not only did Gladys finish school but she also became one of my best customers but it was extra special when her sister ordered a token for her and I was able to create it from scratch and deliver it. Family means the world to Gladys so I know this was everything!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I own a gifting service Fancy’s Tokens. Prior to the pandemic I was starting to explore other opportunities where I could be my own boss and do what I love and that is helping others. When the pandemic started and my position was eliminated early on I decided not to return to corporate america. I had several ideas but I chose gifting because I did not have to touch the person or see them. I found a way around Covid and started to grow my business. I create unique and customized gifts for customers with emapthy and love. Customers choose the budget and give me a vision of the person they are ordering for and I create thier ask. In order for customers to know what I was doing I started giving certain people gifts and that is how I founded the non profit Fancy’d as it was the mission of my business. I also enjoy sharing my testimony of crossing the border and growing up in the US as a migrant. So I created Motivate to Activate. I host an annual vision board event with a specific focus each year so it is actionabale. I also host an annual event where three women share their story of overcoming called Cuentamelo, which means tell me about it. I also created an online platform called Cafe Con Las Comadres (Coffee with your girlfriends). This group is a way to share, vent, and bring together more women who needed a platform like this to help their mental health by having support from so many women! Everything I do has one focus: making someones life better. Our mental health has never been tested like it has these past few years and some are still struggling. The goal at Fancy’s is to make sure we consistently find ways to pour into a persons mental health and wellness.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was born in Mexico and came to the US when I was 4. I went from living a life of comfort to migrant life. as a child I would look at other people working so hard and I knew that I wanted a better life. when I was 11 my mother decided to end our migrant life and moved us to Michigan. The move was abrupt as we were tricked into thinking we were going to the store. I am the second oldest of 9 children so this journey was not easy. As I grew up I needed to make decisions to help me reach my dream of not being a migrant and being somebody. It was not an easy journey but I could not give up on me. Then others got to know me and my dream and they would not give up on me either. I finished highschool prenant but the words of my life mentor changed me forever. When she found out I was pregnant she asked me this question: “Do you want to be a stereotype for the rest of your life?” She almost slapped me with her words and in that moment I remembered the little girl who stood in the fields lookiong around wanting better. So I looked for better. I married my middle school sweetheart, I am a mother of 3, and I have a Bacherlors degree in Criminal Justice, and I have 16 years. Starting this business was not easy. I used my own money and resources. Financially it has been challenges as I was determined not to get in debt in order to start this business. My truck’s engine gave out and I had no truck for eight months but God always provided a way for me to go the store, deliver a gift, and provide my services to people who needed it most. People have donated items for me to include in my tokens but I can’t sell what is meant to bless someone so I donate the items instead. When I started this business I made a committent: I asked God to help me bring this dream to life and I would give it everything I had. I have done that and continue to do so. Now when I face a crisiis I simply remind myself I am not alone in this joourney.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes! Waves of Creativity-A Gathering of Ideas on Creating with God by Allen Arnold. My friend and business coach gave me this book after Christmas of 2021 and I almost done reading it for the second time. This book taught me about me. It helped me understand my art and how to help myslef in my business. Especially when I faced difficult times, I would pull out this book and the section was spot on! I am currently trying to aquire the book in bulk to gift it to other business owners like me.
