We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nancy Oliver. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nancy below.
Hi Nancy, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first client that found me organically was a total accident. She was looking for change and came into my business. She had no idea that I wasn’t going to just give her change for a $50 bill, but I was going to change her life with my infrared sauna pod. When she saw my machine she said “ what planet did that come from?” I laughed and said this machine is from the future and it’s here to help us feel better. She laughed and asked “how does it make you feel better?” I explained some of the health benefits and explained “all you have to do is lay down and relax while you get a vibration massage and enjoy the heat from the infrared light clusters.” She had horrible back pain, she had recently had surgery on her arm (due to an injury). After her first session of 15 minutes she noticed that she was able to move better as she redressed. She purchased six more sessions and each one had her moving and feeling better and better so she kept coming in after a few months she noticed that the large scar on her arm was fading.

Nancy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I an a breast Cancer SURVIVOR! After having multiple surgeries I was left feeling broken, empty and in so much pain. My doctors were great with passing out prescriptions, and now there are a couple or recent years I don’t remember much about. I accidentally overdosed and was saved by my amazing husband. When I told my pain management doctor I wanted to fix my body not cover the symptoms he told me implanting a spinal stimulator would stop my pain, it didn’t. My plastic surgeon gave me a noogleberry and told me to torture myself for 3 hours a day for 3 months, it didn’t help.
Then a random meeting at a friends house a woman told me about infrared therapy and thought it might help increase collagen in my scars so they would not be so tight that I couldn’t raise my arms. She also told me it could help with my neuropathy pain, muscle pain and joint pain. I could this infrared sauna pod that after 3 sessions I was sleeping better at night. After 6 sessions I was able to touch the top of my head for the first time in over a year. I knew I had to keep using this pod to see how much better I can feel. Unfortunately they. We’re goin out of business and I freaked out! I bought the pod to use for myself, but I wanted to tell everyone how amazing I felt so instead of moving it to my house I. Quit my job and started my own infrared sauna pod business.
Now I am learning more and more about all the benefits of infrared, red light and vibration therapies all together the list goes on and on. I have stayed healthy through covid and I used to be sick all the time (increased immune system) I lost 60lbs (detoxification and burns calories) I stopped taking my pain medications (reduced joint, muscle, nerve and phantom pains) I can raise my hands all the way over my head (increased collagen in my scar tissue) increased my mobility after a total knee replacement (reduced inflammation, swelling and muscle recovery).
I could not keep this technology to myself. I feel like this is my way to make the world a happier place one person at a time. I have clients with different auto immune issues, sciatic pain, fibromyalgia, recovering from surgeries and lymphedema that have found relief from their symptoms. My clients always leave relaxed and feeling better and that fills my heart.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Just a couple months after opening my business I was shut down by COVID (since I was in an salon). Business didn’t pick right back up, a few of my clients past from Covid complications. Trying to learn marketing and social media to bring clients in was/is hard. I feel like I wasted money on Valpak, Facebook and Instagram ads I haven’t seen any business from it. Paying for networking groups and individual networking meetings. I was almost broke and was close to shutting down and keeping my pod at home for myself. Then I found a better location and started advertising on Groupon and business is picking up! I am so glad that I can still help other people feel better.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Once I found out that the pod that was making me feel better was about to move from Kansas to Texas, I knew I had to do everything in my power to come up with over $50,000 in less than a week. I didn’t just have it laying around so I cashed out my 401K and bought the pod outright. I didn’t even want to think about it leaving this area. That gave me enough leftover to decorate and purchase all the supplies needed to create a healing getaway for other people to enjoy. It was/is still so scary to know that I have not been able to replace my retirement yet but I’m positive that it will happen!
