We were lucky to catch up with Nancy Nu Nguyen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nancy Nu , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The BIGGEST risk I ever take was leaving my family business to follow my intuition. There was a deep passion for me in beauty, entrepreneurship, and self discovery. There greatest achievement was failure, that was the only I learned to pick myself up and do it again. I knew if I sat there and wondered, “What if’s?” , I would end up driving myself crazy!
Looking back in my twenties to my twenties to early thirties, I took so many risks to make up for all the years of being shy. The young version of me was all about the comfort zone. Because it was SAFE. No failure would
Take action that I would be part of.
I opened my first brow studio 15 years ago and shut it down less than six months. With taking a big lost, I battle was depression for over 2 years. During, my darkest moment, I had such a great support system that I am truly grateful for everyday.
I have learned no one is responsible for how you feel or think but yourself. I was always a people pleaser, and sometimes I still am just to an extend because it’s in my genes.
Now, I completely shift my thoughts and change the way I think. And it completely change the way I see things, in a positive direction.
Today, I have learned to apply the tools o learned to the rest of my life. Especially, In a salon business. It is definitely not easy, there are many risks and responsibilities people don’t realize.
From the heavy over head, to hiring, training and much more. But, by the end of the day, I knew that’s what I sign up
for. Therefore, I do take full responsibilities on my part.
I started second studio, about 8 years ago. Just me, myself and I. I absolutely love it, but I knew as my business grew, I need help. I need to expand and share
my knowledge for people who were struggling. I was there more than once, and today I get to share my experiences with my staff and artists.
Now, I probably take too many risks because I know whatever my heart desire. And when I brain doesn’t stop thinking of an idea. I do have to give it a shot. Because, again I will drive myself nuts thinking “ what if’s?”.

Nancy Nu , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
If there is two words to describe myself is, I am very motivated and compassionate. I absolutely love what I do, that is Permanent Makeup and teaching artists from my 10 years of experience .
The best part of my job is how the clients feels when they leave and the connection with just a simple
Conversation.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
COVID-19 was such a scary moment for all business owners. We shut down for a month, a lot of clients cancel their future appointments.
As a business owner, I was the captain of my ship. I knew if I Steered my ship in a bad direction. We will crash and my staff would be without a job.
So, I trained them new skills and technique. Learn marketing tools, social
Media and tool classes.
My staff were confident and offered more services. Honestly, it save our business during a roughy time.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Believe or not. Because I have some much experiences in Permanent Makeup. I signed a lease to open a second location for trainings.
Contour Brows Academy was established 2020. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I found great joy in helping others, who struggle or new becoming artists. I am so grateful, they chose me to be part of their journey.
Trust me, it is not perfect. I am learning how to be a better Permanent Makeup trainer everyday. It gets better and better each time.
