We were lucky to catch up with Nancy Muralles recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nancy, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to own my own business, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do I just knew I didn’t want to work for someone else. I grew up and had to do what every adult has to do and I got a job, I always worked in sales because I was against having the same schedule everyday and in sales I always had a different schedule. Eventually I found my passion (makeup and hairstyling) so I would take clients whenever I could because I had my regular job and weekends were super busy for us which is the same days that are busy for bookings. In 2019 I decided to quit my job and focus solely on my business as a makeup artist, it was a huge risk that I took especially because Covid had just begun but I stuck to my dreams and kept going, in 2021 I made 6 figures as a makeup artist something I never imagined I could do! Taking a risk was the best thing I ever did for myself, believing in ME was the most powerful thing I’ve done to this date. I have no regrets and now have my salon located in Riverside,CA (SASSY GAL BEAUTY) I have a new passion now and that is teaching makeup, feeling so accomplished but I’m not done yet I’m only getting started!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Nancy aka Nathaly when I started makeup I was very shy so I decided to tell people my name was my middle name because that was my alter ego lol. I’m 30 years old and have been doing makeup since 2016 I was 22 at the time, I started doing makeup because my daughters dad pushed me to follow my dreams, he would see me glam by friends and would always be amazed by the outcome, that motivated me to begin my journey as a freelance MUA, getting clients was the hardest part but I did my research and put myself on a platform that I found on google, my first booking I got on there was a total of 6 girls! I was so happy and nervous, I took my little bag of makeup that I had and just begun to work, time went by so fast I was loving every moment of it and they all loved it which made it an amazing first booking. After that there was no stopping me I kept going and kept getting booked on the platform slowly I was becoming who I always wanted to be, fast forward to 2019 by daughters dad passed away, it was the hardest moment of my life, he pushed me to start my dreams so I knew I wanted to work harder in honor of him.. and I did! The next day after he passed I went to my booking because I knew it would help me I knew it was the right thing to do for myself. I cried after the booking but that day I promised myself I was never going to be afraid of failure or stop myself from accomplishing all my dreams. It’s 2024 now I am striving in the industry, I am a high demand MUA who now owns a salon and teaches other women how to do makeup. My job is so rewarding and it truly is my passion I care so much about all of my clients and continue to make sure they leave my presence with more confidence and self love. I will continue to serve my girlies until I can’t anymore. This is my purpose.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy is just being there and being consistent! The more consistent you are the more people will keep engaging with you and everything you offer. When I don’t post too much on social media people start forgetting what you offer so you do have to be a commercial and be in peoples face as much as you can! Promote your business everywhere you go. The key to success really is consistency and being yourself.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me is being myself and always keeping everything super professional and friendly. My clients say I’m sweet, personable, professional, and I listen to all of their concerns which is true I make sure that I give my clients exactly what they are asking for and I do that by asking many questions. I love my clients and their happiness is what is important to me I always tell them if I could do it for free, I would! That’s how much I love what I do and I’m confident that all my clients see that and that’s why they keep referring their friends and family to me, I am so grateful for them all.
