We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nancy Kalu Okoro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nancy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Nans K Apparel idea came from a casual date I had with a close friend.We were pondering how what type of business to do but we settled on been a personal shopper for men’s items. He promised to help me get the right suppliers,right contacts and brief me on the business because I had no idea about it.
Along the way,we both fell out of the friendship and I felt all hope was lost because I had no idea on the business and I didn’t want to fail at all.
I took it upon my self to enroll myself in a business coaching class for a week,I started contacting graphic designer for my logo and flyers.
I called a friend and ask for suppliers contacts got some contacts,tasted them and selected the ones that gave me good quality and good customer service.
Through my times for searching for a good suppliers,some business owners refused to give me but they don’t know the sky is big enough to accommodate a lot of people not everything is competition.
I didn’t know what I was doing but I know God was all by side and I took things gradually and one step at a time.
I felt Nans K Apparel will work because when someone have a passion for something,the mountains have to move for it.
Suddenly,customers started coming and refferals started coming.
Thank God nans k apparel is a 2 years successful business that have a business website,good social media platforms and the rest but you know business doesn’t always come like that but I can’t give up.
I will put my effort and keep striving high.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got through my business with an idea from a friend because he wanted me to be independent. I render services of been your personal shopper,I render products only on men’s items.
I solved the problems of my clients by giving them a smooth delivery to their doorstep,good quality of my products been requested because these days when you order something online you will get something different what you requested for ,I give my customers that trust in my business.
What set me apart from other personal shoppers is my consistency and confidence in my business.,If you don’t have confidence in your business,your customers won’t have in you it is like a reflection of you that is what I think business is.
I’m so proud of coming this far because there are sometimes I face loss and chalk in my business despite I don’t have a walk in store yet.
I want my potential clients to know that nans k apparel is a small business that needs all the support because we are a brand that have potential to serve our customers the best quality they deserve.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
My first funding of my business was through my school pocket funds. I always save a particular percentage of my school pocket funds for any emergency reasons.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
To been honest in business. Examples:
When you know you can’t deliver a particular product on time,you inform the client instead of receiving the money and delaying Kate that kills a customer trust in your business.
Monthly checkups help to grow your client,you might not know what your client is going through,your words of encouragement might help.
