We were lucky to catch up with Nancy Becher recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nancy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
For over 35 years I was chugging along as a business consultant when WHAM, I was hit by a car. Literally, and it changed my life totally. For a year and half I sat in bed only getting out to go to doctors and hospitals. One morning I woke up and it was like God hit me on the back of the head and told me to get up, get going and to change the lives of millions of women with chronic and autoimmune invisible disabilities. It was then and there that I formed my nonprofit to support these women and help them thrive — not just survive. This was hard for me as I no longer can walk. I’m in a wheelchair. No longer can drive. My feet don’t work. And I deal with foggy brain, exhaustion and aches and severe pain 24/7 so getting out there and doing ANYTHING is hard. But on a mandate from God, what else can I do and when I see the lights go on in women’s eyes — knowing they’re not alone, that makes it worth while.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After years in school (a BA in sociology/psychology/French; MA in Counseling, and a Phd (abd) in Middle Eastern Affairs/sociology) she had a career as a business owner for over 35 years. It was in 2014 that her world crashed to a standstill. At one time a trainer who traveled around the country teaching other business owners how to run their companies more effectively in customer service, sales and back office systems, a hit and run car accident caused her to lose the use of her legs and one of her arms. She was no longer interested in being a success because she was busy with doctor appointments, surgeries and other medical challenges. Her mindset went from thriving to “just wanting to die”.
Turn the clock up to 2023 and watch what’s been accomplished. She climbed out of the pit and is actively engaged in running a 501c3 ministry that helps others who are in the position she was once in and gets them out and thriving once again. These women feel alone, unworthy and Dis=abled. But that is not true. She shows them they are worthy; valued and valuable. The organization, Invisible Warriors is there to help find resources, training, prayer and support with others who “Get” what they’re going through. It believes they can be successful — just differently than before. The mission is: Changing the cycle of loss by championing the rights of women with non-apparent illnesses.
She is a writer, a producer, international consultant and chronic illness warrior for over 9 years. Her email is [email protected]

Can you talk to us about how your funded your firm or practice?
Nonprofits are a bit different than for profit businesses. My VP and I started Invisible Warriors with my own money (about $10,000 to date) and hope and pray that others will hear us and feel drawn to support us through time, talent and treasures. We hold fundraisers (so far a concert and 2 art contests) as well as small things along the way. Right now we are selling e gift cards to different retail stores, groceries, gas and more. There is always room for donors and philantropists to send us funds to help support these women who are invisible warriors, battling exhaustion, pain, foggy brain, stigma and so much more.

Have you ever had to pivot?
That story is easy. For many years I was a business consultant and one of the first to run executive suites in the Washington, DC area. But after moving to take care of my parents, and my accident, I couldn’t do what I did before, and didn’t want to frankly. It is then that I found my passion for advocating and supporting women with chronic and autoimmune diseases.
