We recently connected with Nanci Goldberg and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nanci thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was an Art teacher in the Fox Chapel Area School District for 32 years. Sharpsburg is a part of that district and I always loved Sharpsburg. It would bother me that kids from the neighborhood didn’t think it was a safe or amazing place to be from. I knew when I opened a community art space I wanted it to be in Sharpsburg. Ketchup City Creative was born of my love of this little town and and the people here. I did it for the kids.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I think I’m most proud of being a connector. I like to connect artists with audiences and artists with other artists. I wanted a space where people felt comfortable talking about all things related to art. I draw a very eclectic group of artists and I’m proud of that. I am fortunate that social media has worked very well for me and we’ve built a solid reputation as a great place to show. Recently the space has become fiscally sponsored by Artspiration so that the mission of community connection through the arts can grow even more. Community projects, working with Community youth, working with other artists and things of that nature really keep the space alive.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Authenticity. I am me. I say what I do and I do what I say. I am here to help artists and the community and that’s what I do. Actions speak louder than words. Let people know that you will do what you say by doing it. I spend a lot of time in the community and I think that really helps.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Use social media as much as you can. Don’t like it? That’s not a good reason to not use it. It’s something we all have to live with and work with. Don’t understand it? Ask questions of those who do. If you are in a visual field and aren’t showing what you do it’s a mistake.
