We recently connected with Nana Malania and have shared our conversation below.
Nana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
That is a great question. Makeup was something that I always enjoyed doing on myself. I’m sure most of you searched for your mom’s makeup bag and played with it when you were little, well that was also me. In 2011 when I moved to the USA and I felt so lonely doing makeup became my therapy. I would do different looks in my room watching youtube videos, it gave me so much joy and pleasure. Through out the years my friends and family would ask me to do their makeup and seeing their reaction made me fall in love doing makeup on others but I thought it was too risky to quit a regular stable job and start everything from zero. The summer of 2021 I decided to quit my 9-5 banking job and signed up for school to get the esthetician license.
.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I can talk about makeup non stop. I am very proud to say I am a self taught makeup artist, everything I know I learned from my own practice experience on myself, family and friends. When I first was getting into this industry I did a lot of free makeup to get more comfortable with working on other faces and build my portfolio. After doing a lot of research and testing I can proudly say I have built a high quality and inclusive makeup kit with products that suit every age and every skin tone. I take my job very seriously. Having a clean and organized makeup kit is one of the most important parts of my job. I want to earn my client’s trust from the first conversation. First impressions are very important, clients need to know that they are in good hands.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing Confidence in my clients. My favorite part of my dream job is seeing reactions of my beautiful clients. I don’t let my clients look in the mirror during the process, because I love to see their WOW faces after they see the result. I love helping them feel more confident. Many women never wear makeup so it is incredible for them to see the transformation. Every woman is beautiful I’m just helping them to Accentuate their beauty.
How did you build your audience on social media?
As I said above I started out with doing makeup applications for free. I did model calls on my page to build my instagram portfolio. It is important to find your style of makeup so you can attract the specific audience. I personally specialize in doing soft, bridal, elegant looks, because that’s what I enjoy doing so I wanted to make sure that I could get clients that are interested in soft glam.
