We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Namita DigheShetty. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Namita below.
Hi Namita, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Unlocking the misunderstanding between a dog and their guardian.
That’s my mission. I grew up misunderstood and an odd one in a world where I did not fit in. Only 35 years later I learned that my ADHD was the reason I could not live up to expectations created by the society. A society that does not know how to accommodate atypical individuals.
That out of place, misunderstood feeling is what I have in common with our pet dogs today.
We have changed the narrative on our dogs who are bred for a specific job over decades, carefully selected for those behaviours. Now asking them to fit into our world where their jobs are obsolete and their natural behaviours are now deemed “inappropriate”
Naturally guardians do not know this. They do not understand this disconnect.
It is my mission to helps guardians learn how dogs communicate and empower them to build a two way relationship that strengthens their bond
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up around free living dogs in a big bustling city – Mumbai. Since my parents didn’t want a dog in the apartment, I expressed my love for dogs entirely amongst the free living dogs around our neighborhood.
Those experiences gave me an insight that many of us only know in theory. I have watched how dogs with little to no means have thrived, navigated and found joy in an environment that many of our pets struggle with.
The key to their resilience lies, in the fact that they are free to make their own choices, and are able to create distance from those things that they do not feel safe around.
In my work with clients I aim to work on helping guardians understand how we can loosen up the control we have on what and how our dogs act and allow for a 2 way communication.
My clients often have dogs that struggle with fear or frustration related to sounds, strangers in their space or entering their home, reactivity towards other animals and an overall struggle to fit in to our city life.
I offer 1:1 sessions virtually and in person to help guardians understand and learn how to adapt their lives to meet their dog’s unique needs.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I try to create content that dog guardians often do not see on dog training accounts. My goal with creating content is to provide the dog’s perspective (backed by science based data). Although I initially took an aggressive approach of debunking unqualified dog trainer’s and the myths their lack of skills have created, I have since pivoted to working on providing nuance to topics that are often less discussed.
There are several strategies to grow on social media, but for me personally staying authentic to what I am comfortable with has been the most sustainable strategy.
Chasing trends or algorithms will give you the numbers of followers but they will not automatically convert to business sales.
Talking a bit about your offerings can be another important strategy that I wish I was better at on my social media platforms but I have come to terms with social media being a resource for clients and not so much a source of sales for me personally.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I celebrate their wins, however small they are. I check in on them even if they’ve completed their services with me. I find that while it doesn’t always translate in that loyalty, I still have a positive memory in their minds. Luckily for me and how my business operates, I have a very personal relationship with my clients and it is often converted into a long term friendship with them
